Overall, this is one hell of an anthology. I'm really glad I've read it and I wish there were more stories.

Dim Sum Asylum by Rhys Ford - 3*
Interesting urban fantasy world, but the writing seemed a bit off, and I grew tired of the chase pretty fast.

Swift and the Black Dog by Ginn Hale - 3*

A Queer Trade by KJ Charles - 5*
Loved it! Now I can't wait to read the sequel.

Magically Delicious by Nicole Kimberling - 4*
This one was fun! Revisiting of the characters from Irregulars, but it can be read as a stand-alone.

Everyone's Afraid of Clowns by Jordan Castillo Price - 4*
Oh how I missed Vic and Jacob.

The 13th Hex by Jordan L. Hawk - 4.5*
Read it for the 2nd time... still great!

The Soldati Prince by Charlie Cochet - 2.5*
In all it's an entertaining story, if a bit childish. I got a "Dex" vibe from Riley and it did not sit well with me. I get the feeling the humor/snark is used to distract from the (tbh pretty cliche) story.

One Hex Too Many by Lou Harper - 4*
Lou Harper is turning out to be a great author. I loved the story and the characters, and it needs a sequel asap!

Josh of the Damned vs. the Bathroom of Doom by Andrea Speed - 3.5*
This was fun. It's my first Josh of the Damned book and now I'm curious about the rest of the story.

The Trouble With Hexes by Astrid Amara - 4* ( )

Overall this book was a huge hit for me. There were a couple of stories that didn't quite hit the mark (one I DNF'd-but I've always struggled with that series because humour is very subjective) but most were 4* or above.
Just a quick note, there are a few more editing errors than I would expect from this particular group of authors.

Ginn Hale - Swift and the Black Dog. Excellent world building that evolved naturally as the story progressed. Quite dark in tone and more of a fantasy with a sliver of romance than a fantasy romance. The story was gripping but could have been better served in a longer format, certainly with regard to the romance. 4*
KJ Charles - A Queer Trade. Excuse me while I squee. Set in the Magpie verse but with no knowledge of the other books in the series required. Full of Charles' rich well-rounded characters, humour and horror in equal measure (and often both at the same time), and a beautifully paced love story that could have been called insta-love in a lesser author's hands. 5*
Nicole Kimberling - Magically Delicious. Enjoyed this sequel to the story in the Irregulars anthology. 4*
Jordan Castillo Price - Everyone's Afraid of Clowns. My first outing with Psycop. Don't know why. Another series to start reading. 4*
Jordan L. Hawk - The Thirteenth Hex. Loved this.Fell easily into the world without needing a complicated build up and the characters were gorgeous together. 4.5*
Charlie Cochet - The Soldati Prince. Is this the start of a new series? The signs are there.
Lou Harper - One Hex Too Many. I like Lou Harper's writing and enjoyed all aspects of this story, although I'd have like a bit more made of the relationship. 4.5*

Astrid Amara - The Trouble With Hexes. Second chances story with a real sense of urgency. I loved both characters and I thought the in depth details on hexes were excellent. I guessed the bad guy early on but you know I wasn't in it for that, I was in it for the relationship and that was perfectly pitched. 4.5* ( )

Ten short stories of gay paranormal romance. I thought Ginn Hale’s was the standout—the aftermath of a magical revolution in which the dour predictions of Animal Farm have once again come to pass, and one of the initial revolutionaries tries to fix some ongoing sins. The magical system was fresh and the conflicts felt real. KJ Charles, Jordan Castillo Price, and Jordan Hawk are among the other authors. ( )

A Queer Trade by K.J. Charles
While there is a serious need and an urgent problem behind Crispin’s quest to find his deceased master’s magic papers, there is a levity of tone and a wonderful sense of humor in the way KJ Charles tells this story. Set in a London of the past, but one where magic is real, this is the tale of an apprentice magician and a waste paper seller who would not normally have met.

Crispin is white, young, inexperienced, and desperate to find the spell-covered papers before they can do real damage. Ned is a man of color (as he puts it), is a little older, an experienced trader, and very, vey skeptical about the existence of magic. But the attraction between these two different men is undeniable, and I loved watching them get closer as Crispin begins to explain what has happened, and Ned begins to consider believing him. By the time they go hunting for the missing papers and all kind of weird and mysterious things happen, I was both amused and fearful for Crispin’s safety if anyone found out it was his fault.

If you like stories about magic gone wrong, if you enjoy finding out more about men who appear to be very different on the surface, et turn out to be very well matched, and if you’re looking for a read that is both amusing and suspenseful, then you will probably like this short story.

Magically Delicious by Nicole Kimberling
Working among extra-humans without any of their powers is a tough job. Keith may be “only” human, but he is determined to do his best. In this story he faces a supertough challenge when his extra-human boyfriend Gunther is attacked and Keith is the one to go after the perpetrator. Never mind all the powerful beings in his way – human determination is all he needs to solve the case.

Keith and Gunther are hilarious together, and it’s clear they are very dedicated to each other. As different as they are they have to be very much in love if they want to make things work, and it’s too bad that Gunther’ relatives don’t agree with his choice of “only human” boyfriend.

If you like stories about men who are determined to save their boyfriends no matter wat they have to face, if an interspecies couple appeals to you, and if you’re looking for a read that is action-packed, funny, and has a wonderful ending, then you will probably like this short story.

The Trouble With Hexes by Astrid Amara
‘The Trouble With Hexes’ is a somewhat dark tale about two men with very different belief systems, both of whom are convinced they are right. In this story’s world hexes exist and hexbreakers, while trying to help, suffer worrying effects on their health. A realist like Tim does not have an easy time of it, but when he has to deal with a vengeful hexmaker who isn’t very good at their job, he is beginning to believe there may be more to what Vincent was trying to tell him before they split up.

Trying to figure out who hexed Tim then finding them and lifting the deadly hex makes for a tension-filled story and keeps Vincent on his toes and me turning the pages. The complicated romance between Tim and Vincent added another angle to the story, and by the time the multilayered mystery began to unravel, I was hooked.

If you like characters who drive each other mad, yet can’t seem to live without the other, if you want to find out more about hexes gone wrong and what can be done to stop them, and if you’re looking for a read that is as scary as it is emotional and intense, then you will probably like this novella.

3 stars average rating . As in any anthology there are stories for different tastes.

Rhys Ford - Dim Sum Asylum: 1.5 stars . It has some potential but felt like an attempt at bringing together unrelated bits and pieces with the help of some action and a forced ending.

Ginn Hale - Swift and the Black Dog: 4 Stars. A well developed story with an interesting ending. It has a dark feeling to it,which is somehow thought provoking, especially if you are familiar with the cycle and history of different revolutions.

KJ Charles - A Queer Trade : 1.5 stars. it starts interesting but quickly turns boring. The core idea is rather cliche but the writing style is smooth and easy to read.

Nicole Kimberling - Magically Delicious: 3 stars. Mostly fun and entertaining, with a lot of magical creature and a rather interesting world. Unfortunately there is too much emphasis on mundane details.

Jordan Castillo Price - Everyone's Afraid of Clowns: 3 stars. Part of psy-cop series , though it can be enjoyed as a stand alone. Compared to other books in this series, it's surprisingly well edited. It is engaging and fun though if you try to outline the plot there isn't much.

Jordan L. Hawk - The Thirteenth Hex: 4 stars. Intro to hex world series. It is well written and entertaining and at some point worth re-reading.

Charlie Cochet - The Soldati Prince: 0.5 star. the worst story in this anthology. Cliche unhappy fated mate story told in form of old fashioned stories disguised as fairy-tales which were intended to teach morals to kids, if we ignore the sex scenes which were poorly written. I really wonder why it was selected !!!

Lou Harper - One Hex Too Many: 4 stars. Fun and entertaining. Though there is emphasis on a point which makes you question the very end of this story.

Andrea Speed - Josh of the Damned vs. the Bathroom of Doom: 3 stars. I guess I over rated it due to the enjoyment factor. It happens between two parts of the " Josh of the damned " Series. Though you can enjoy it without having read the series. It is light-hearted, funny and entertaining , but don't look for a an actual plot, because there is none.

Astrid Amara - The Trouble With Hexes : 3 stars. It needs some editing. there are odd silly , rather irrelevant sentences which differ from the writing style of the story and feel as if somebody else has inserted them into the story as a prank ! The story is entertaining though easily predictable due to the over exaggerated foreshadowing and the relation and interaction of the two main characters, considering their history, doesn't feel natural.
