It does end on a colossal cliffhanger, but that's okay. And I do like the cover. I was given this as part of a secret Santa book exchange, so make of that what you will. ( ![]() I was disappointed by this second installment in Gladstone's series. The story moves from New York to LA as Gladstone continues to search for the Internet, involving his ex-wife along the way. There were numerous grammatical and spelling errors that show a lack of conscientious editing, and are irritating to the readers. The story itself was let down by the writing, rather than the conception, I think. The twist at the end was interesting, but somehow not that entertaining, as the lead up to it wasn't much to begin with. I really loved most of this book. Wayne Gladstone writing about Wayne Gladstone writing about Wayne Gladstone. The Internet has disappeared and the world has changed. Wayne is a perceptive guy who is coming off a mental breakdown so severe the story starts in Bellevue. Wayne goes to California to find his ex-wife, and crashes with his good friend Tobey. Tobey photocopies Wayne's journal and suddenly Wayne has gone "paper viral" and is a celebrity. Mr. Gladstone is obviously having fun with the story and I was enjoying it tremendously. Suddenly the tone of the book changed, the world turned topsy turvy and the story ended ten pages later. Mr. Gladstone ran out of time or out of ideas or had a crappy editor because the ending makes no sense even as a transition to a follow-on book. I received a review copy of "Agents of the Internet Apocalypse" by Wayne Gladstone (St. Martin's Press) through NetGalley.com. Agents of the Internet Apocalypse left me wondering just what it was all about, as they never, to my understanding, restore the internet, punish the bad guy, or reach an understandable resolution. Perhaps this book is but a chapter of a larger opus, wherein the plot will have a resolution. As far as this story goes, the main character's psychotic episode(s) and antics are the subject, wherein he and his enabling cast finally locate the bad guy. Just not my cup of tea, and while well written not the science fiction tale that it was advertised as being. näyttää 4/4 ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu

"Gladstone, the so-called 'Internet Messiah,' has not only failed to bring back the Web, but his search has landed him in a New York City psychiatric ward. The rest of the world isn't doing so well either, filled with disconnected Internet users still jonesing for a fix, and an increasingly draconian government, interrogating and detaining anyone deemed a 'person of interest' under the NET Recovery Act. For Gladstone, however, finding the Net is less important than heading to Los Angeles to win back his ex-wife"-- No library descriptions found. |
