A Life, Forward is the second book in the Rowan Slone series. I didn't realize this when I received it as an Early Reviewer book, but I needn't have worried; the author does an excellent job of telling the story in a way that allows it to stand alone, even if you haven't read the first book.

Rowan is a great protagonist. She's been through a lot in her life, and has managed to remain successful in spite of it. She has a great support system, which is fortunate, because her problems haven't come to an end yet. Relationship problems, both romantic and familial, threaten to throw Rowan's somewhat stable life into disarray yet again.

I enjoyed all of the characters, and the plot of the story kept me eagerly reading. I cheered for Rowan from the first page, and am eager to read the other books in the series now.
