This was a fun, fresh read that I checked out because I wanted to revisit some Gotham/Batman storylines. I'm also a sucker for boarding school settings- they're always so fun to read about!
The cast in here was my favorite aspect- I liked Maps the best; she seems like a vibrant and promising character who was definitely the light of this graphic novel. The main character, Olive Silverlock, is also growing on me, and I'm looking forwards to see where her story goes. I'm honestly hoping for some sort of Bat-power or something, but we'll see.
There were a few too unanswered questions and vague hints about past and current events for my liking. Between the ghost, the mysterious events of the summer, Olive's mom, the love relationships, and the thing in the walls, there was just a lot going on and not everything had a real solid direction to it. However, I sense a real potential for growth here! I look forward to seeing how this series develops! :) ( )

1st Read --
This book is startlingly well written for a children's comic. I love the writing, the art, and the number of slowly unwrapping mysteries. I didn't believe it when everyone told me everyone should be reading this, but I, too, now think this is one of those comic books everyone should be reading right now. ( )

Promising start to a new series. The art's gorgeous, and I like the main characters; I love enthusiastic little Maps. The story feels like Harry Potter dropped into Gotham City. Lots of fun. I'm looking forward to the next. ( )

The two books I had on the go were a bit deep and heavy, and as I was feeling sick (thanks COVID) wanted something lighter to process so pulled this at random from the stack of unread graphic novels.

And what a delightful surprise it turned out to be. I’m clearly not the target audience, but this Harry Potter / Scooby Gang / Nancy Drew style tale set in a Gotham private school was a fun read.

The characters are delightful, engaging, and relatable. The mystery had me hooked early on, and the reveal brought a smile to my face as it was both a surprise, yet logical.

And if you know your Batman mythos and a bit of Gotham history there’s enough references to enjoy, but they don’t get in the way of what was at its heart a well told highly accessible, and entertaining story.

I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for the second volume. ( )

I'm assuming it's because I really haven't read much in the Batman/Gotham canon, and so characters and events that would be significant to other readers are lost on me.
