"All I can say is that he was an extraordinary man in a very small town that hardly knew anything about him. He lived a life just as common as the people in Covington (Louisiana). They (the Percys) were right there with the people. I worked for other people, but with the Percys, it didn't feel like a job. It felt like I was helping friends, and I'm getting taken care of because I'm taking care of them, and that's the way it works. In most cities they have some kind of monument or something to say that this person was here or this was there, but they have none of that for Dr. Percy. When you look back on all the things that he did for all the people here, it seems like something should be here to recognize that this is where Walker Percy lived, that this is where he was, this is where his family still is."
