This would be a great book to read before a field trip to the aquarium. I would actually read it twice. The first reading would be to enjoy the illustrations and read the rhyming part of the story. The second reading would be to read the facts about the fish and enjoy the illustrations again. This book focuses on vertebrates and invertebrates. Also, endoskeletons and exoskeletons. I like how the author uses comparisons of other mammals to get a better understanding of why each animal is categorized the way they are. For example, blue whales are endoskeletons like humans because we both have a backbone. There is a great chart in the back of the book that shows the different descriptions of animals compared to others. It is easy to read and kid-friendly. If the class were to take a trip to the aquarium, I would create a blank chart for students to fill in. When they come across the animal they could chart whether it is a vertebrate or invertebrate and why it would be in that category. ( )

Sea bones is a very colorful book that would drawn young children right in at sight. This book gave a colorful illustration of a sea creature and label the parts. This book would assist children in identifying the parts as they continue to read the book. The reading give insights on what happen to the skeletons of dead coral and how long it takes them to form. This reading also gave facts about sea creatures in a chart with answers. ( )

This book literally discussed the ins and outs of many different animals that live in the sea. It starts with a brief overview of bones and the endoskeleton versus the exoskeleton. It also talks about crabs, the coral reef, and jellies (not 'jellyfish' because they aren't technically fish). The book then talked about animals that live so deep in the ocean that they make their own light. Then it switched to animals who spend most of their life on land, seals. The last six pages of the book are the most interesting because one two-page spread has drawings of fish and the next spread has their bones showing through. The last two-page spread is a chart about skeletons, backbones, and type of animal.
Although the book had pretty pictures and interesting aspects the layout was very sporadic without much coherence. ( )

"Sea Bones" by Bob Barner is an informative book about the ocean and sea creatures. each page has big easy words to read and then smaller facts are listed about the subject of the bigger words. Illustrations are colorful and kid-friendly. This book would great for students who are interested in the ocean or for an ocean themed lesson. ( )

This book was very informational about the sea creatures of the oceans and very descriptive. For example, "Jellies have no bones, and no brains, and they go wherever the ocean current takes them." The illustrations looked like they were drawn right on the page which is very unusual and interesting for kids to see because it makes them think that they can do the same, or gives them the motivation to do the same. The overall idea of this book was to inform the readers about all of the magical creatures of the ocean, ( )
