I Picked Up This Book Because: Random library find

The Story:

I smiled throughout most of this book, with breaks for outrage and tears. I love Brian and Ella’s relationship, even before they met. I love their banter and how much they care for each other. I enjoyed the growth of the sisterhood between Juliette and Ella, that was a hard won battle. Elle’s like if almost all hard one battles and she has her ups and downs.

I enjoyed this book very much, if I had the next book I’d pick it up right now.

The Random Thoughts:

I’m quite disappointed that my library does not have the next installment. :-(

I just loved this!!!! I was going through a phase of not finishing books because everything was just so blah. One of my favorite authors praises Kelly Oram's books so I started reading this because I loved Serial Hottie and I thought this would be another light funny read. It's not that this book doesn't have a few moments that made me laugh but it's definitely dealing with some pretty serious issues. I loved it, though yes I found myself with tears leaking down my cheek a few times (much to my husbands bemusement) I just couldn't wipe the smile from my face.

The beginning said it all
'Good characters need hardship to make them strong'
I don't necessarily believe they need it to 'make' them strong so much as to 'show them how strong they can be' and geeze Ella was a role model for strength, she may have faltered but she didn't stop, she kept fighting and I was just so happy to have read her story. Even though she's fictional, it made me want to stop whining about the little things that go wrong in my life.... Okay rant over, now go read this book! ( )

Na wstępie krótkie wyjaśnienie dla osób nieznających języka angielskiego: Cinderella to z angielskiego Kopciuszek, dlatego też główni bohaterowie zostali nazwani Cinder i Ella. A więc jak sugeruje tytuł, jest to współczesna bajka o Kopciuszku. I jak na Kopciuszka przystało, Ella ma macochę, dwie przybrane siostry i nie cieszy się popularnością w szkole. Mamy również księcia, którego rumakiem jest Ferrari.

Minął już prawie rok od wypadku, w którym Ella straciła mamę a także poważnie się poparzyła. Do dziś nie odzyskała pełnej sprawności, a przez swoje blizny stała się pośmiewiskiem w szkole. Musiała przeprowadzić się na drugi koniec kraju do ojca, jego nowej żony i dwóch córek. Świat Cindera wygląda zupełnie inaczej. Jest on przystojnym aktorem, do którego wzdychają miliony dziewcząt, a jego ojciec jest producentem filmowym. Z Ellą poznali się właściwie przypadkiem, gdy Cinder skomentował jeden z jej wpisów na blogu dotyczący ich ulubionej książki. Z czasem oboje się w sobie zakochali, lecz żadne z nich nie chciało się do tego przyznać. Nie planowali także się spotkać, gdyż bali się odrzucenia. Jednak życie miało dla nich inne plany.

Historia jest opowiadana naprzemiennie z perspektywy Elli i Cindera. Przyznam, że byłam bardzo pozytywnie zaskoczona. Nie spodziewałam się tak interesującej historii. Nawet nie wyobrażam sobie przez co Ella musiała przejść. Utrata ukochanej mamy, liczne operacje, niekończąca się rehabilitacja, depresja, brak przyjaciół. Początkowo myślałam, że ojciec jej nie kocha, z czasem jednak doceniłam jego starania. Jej nowa rodzina też ostatecznie okazała się nie być taka zła. Książka nie robi jakiegoś niezwykłego wrażenia ani nie jest oryginalna, od pierwszych stron wiadomo jak ta historia się skończy, a postacie mogłyby być bardziej złożone. Mimo to bardzo przyjemnie się ją czyta, spodobał mi się styl autorki i mam na oku kilka innych jej książek. Polecam jeśli macie ochotę na historię o miłości, w której wszystko dobrze się kończy i wszyscy żyją długo i szczęśliwie. ( )
