There’s nothing like a good mystery. And there’s a few in “Murders Unsolved” that were new to me. Author Riley takes a fairly random group of murders from across the last hundred years, mainly in the US but the odd international (Australia’s infamous “Mr Cruel” case gets a mention) and gives us the brief synopsis, the murder investigation and the chief suspects of each case. None of the cases are explored in great detail but thanks to internet, one can always seek further details that way.

For me, the most intriguing case is the strange death of Robert Wone, and the strange behaviour of everyone else in the house, while the tragic Boy in the Box at least needs his name so we can finally lay him to rest. And as is the case with cold cases, some get solved and leaves the book looking out of date, which is what happened here with Caledonia Jane Doe now identified. (
