But I didn't need to be scared! I loved it! It was romantic, wonderful, intruiging, mysterious, steamy and funny. I love it when an author can take on a genre where a lot of books are very similar and write a book that's different from all of them and making it an instant succes. I recommend it to everyone :) I wasn't at all suprised by the 'suprise', but it didn't matter one bit. (  ) jeky91 | Jun 15, 2018 | Immediately I knew the female lead was my kinda girl. Often I like the guy but not the chick. For awhile during this story, I was more about her than him. She's just so everyday in a realistic way, someone I could picture friending in real life. It didn't take long for me to fall for him too. He's just very on about everything, extremely manly without being over the top. The magic scenes were extra cool. Before reading this book, I never though of illusionists as being mega sexy. The meeting back up with a person from your past has been done before, but the mixing of his profession, her profession and a foreign setting meshed quite well to make the story unique. What the actual hell is this?
I picked up this novel after obsessing over show about magicians because it gave me a similar vibe.
But only part about magicians (and maybe some backstory) was similar. Overall it was strange and uncomfortable to read. Dry humping after a forced nap together, he touched her butt while they relationship are not established and acts like she's his toy. Maybe he's trying to break her walls, but his history with living in abusive households shows a little too much.
Will not continue with the series. (
