From New York Times bestselling author Julia London comes the second novel in her irresistibly romantic Desperate Debutantes trilogy, in which three suddenly destitute aristocratic young ladies must resort to desperate means to keep up appearances...and find the husbands of their dreams. Lady Greer Fairchild's only hope of avoiding marriage to the first bidder lies in journeying into the untamed Welsh countryside in search of an inheritance she's not sure even exists -- one reportedly controlled by Rhodrick Glendower, Earl of Radnor, also known as the Prince of Powys. Rumor has it that the prince is rough, ruthless -- even a murderer. But Greer never imagined that the brute would refuse to let her leave his remote castle until she has proven her identity. Or that she would find herself powerfully attracted to this passionately virile man whose gruff demeanor belies a proud and sensual nature. The further Greer falls under his spell, the more determined she becomes to unravel the secrets of her Welsh heritage and the mystery surrounding the dark prince who dares her to become his wife and princess.… (lisätietoja)

Hero was awesome. Not a fan of magically magicalness. ( )

I would have given this story 3 ½ stars if there had been an option. The only reason I didn't give it a lower rating is that I applaud Ms. London for giving us such a flawed hero. Rhodrick Glendower is not the usual handsome and perfect man that we find in so many of these stories. He is color blind and has a limp and a prominent scar on his face. He is plain and more than a little self-conscious of his size. He has been teased by everyone, including his family, about his looks and size most of life. Through all that he has turned out to be a kind and gentle man that just wants to find someone that will love him. Rhodrick is also charming when he wants to be and he is an honorable man. He takes his duties to his people seriously and would rather not have to deal with people in general. I liked him from the beginning.

Greer Fairchild is not what I thought she would be. I had the impression that she was an intelligent, sensible and practical young woman. I thought her very brave to go after her inheritance when her aunt died in the first book. She seemed so determined to find her family. However, that is not the young woman that shows up in this book. Here she is spoiled, willful and rude at times. She complains about everything, her room is too small, the castle is too drafty, she is bored because there is no society to entertain her and she is being held as a prisoner. She is gullible and naive in the extreme and believes too easily. She constantly complains that she has no one to advise her on what to do or how to act. There were times I wanted to turn her over my knee and spank her. I am surprise that Rhodrick didn't. She ended up being one of my least favorite characters of all time.

This story is worth reading if for no other reason than to get to know Rhodrick. There is also all the information about the Welsh country side. We are also treated to how long it would take to travel from London to Wales by public coach. It is a wonder anything ever got done. There is also Mr. Percy. We heard about him in Greer’s letters to her cousins in the first book. What a waste of human flesh. I really wish there are been some conclusion to this despicable man. ( )

Greer Fairchild, and her 2 cousins are in shock after the untimely death of her aunt and her uncle's departure with their money. He promises to marry them off when he returns so Greer decides to take matters into her own hands and heads to Wales where her family is from in order to see about her possible inheritance. She meets the Earl of Radnor, Prince of Powys who has her inheritance under his control and finds herself drawn to him and he to her. This is a normal historical romance and #2 in the series. ( )

Secondary characters and ghosts made it confusing at times. ( )

This would have been so much better without the Wickham-esque Mr. Percy and the ghosts.
