Henry Watson arrives at the Mutter Museum with a double assignment??to become a finder of abnormal antiquities and to watch over and keep Arabella Holmes. An easy task, if he could only get her to speak to him instead of throwing knives in his general direction. But this is no time for child's play. 1910 and the children of Holmes and Watson - Arabella Holmes and Henry Watson, meet again at the Mutter Museum. They are two members of an expedition up the River Hudson to determine whether bones found are evidence of a Nephilim.
Didnit really find the characters or the subject that interesting. Though I did manage to read to the end.

Arabella Holmes and Henry Watson (the children of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, respectively) are in Philadelphia working at the Mutter Museum, studying bones and medical anomalies. They have not seen each other for several years—not since Henry stunned Arabella with a kiss that complicated their life-long friendship. Over-large humanoid skeletons have been found at a dig, and Arabella and Henry join the expedition. Some think the bones reveal the existence of the Nephilim (angels), although Arabella believes they are more likely Neanderthal remains. The first four scientists to go on the expedition mysteriously disappeared.
The story is told in alternating first person, but the voices of Arabella and Henry are similar, making it difficult to keep track of who is narrating. Both are obsessed with the other, their thoughts focusing on love and lust, personal insecurities, and how Arabella is not a “normal” woman. She is meant to have a Sherlockian intellect, but we rarely see her use it. Instead, her thoughts are consumed with Henry, a topic which confuses her and shows her mind as indecisive and emotional. The mysteries of the strange skeletons and the missing scientists are given short shrift to the romance.
The premise is promising and the mystery intriguing, but the story could have used more editing. It reads like an early draft. ( )

Four years prior, Arabella Holmes and Henry Watson had been sent to boarding schools. Now it’s 1910; Henry is twenty-two and Arabella is twenty. They both are vying for a position with Mutter Museum in Philadelphia. Against his father’s will, Henry chose to study antiquities instead of medicine. He now searches for medical oddities. Ms. Holmes had specialized in osteology, the study of bones. A few months before, bones of a large hand had been unearthed in upstate New York. Both Henry and Arabella were elected to be part of the expedition to find more of the bones and determine if they are Nephilim or possibly Neanderthal. Nephilim were fallen angels that had been said to mate with earthly women creating a giant race of people. But there is a group who call themselves Brotherhood of the Revolution (Darwinists) who would do anything to make sure the bones are not found. If fallen angels could be proved in a scientific environment, Darwin’s theories would be incorrect.

I thought this was a very unique story. Arabella is the daughter of the famed Sherlock Holmes. Henry Watson is the son of John Watson. John Watson has a part in this story. Sherlock Holmes is mostly referenced and only has a bit part. As you can imagine, her upbringing would be nonconforming at best. She’s not a girly-girly; she’s tough. She says of herself: “Since my unusual childhood, my mind visualizes my feelings as the organ of my heart, sequestered in a metal box. Its outside covered with countless locks and bolts.” Yet, new feelings she begins to form for Henry as well as renewed feelings of being abandoned years ago by her mother begin to take a temporary toll on her well-being.

I had read Sherlock Holmes quite some years ago, and with Arabella being his daughter, I actually expected more sleuthing and less romance. Per Amazon, the age group is 12 and up (grade level 7 and up). However, even though there were no strong sexual scenes, I still felt that romance was more revealed than what 12 year olds should read. As Arabella is twenty, I would suggest the reading age at no less than fifteen or sixteen. I rated Boneseeker at 3.5 out of 5.
