Some of the stories in here are hilarious, especially with the interactions on the audiobook, but I'm not a fan of celebrities giving life advice, and Poehler did a little more of that than I would have preferred. And there's SO MUCH name dropping. ( )

I was off-put by the amount of language, and the discussion of casual sex in the book - I only read the introduction and the first chapter. I understand that this is the normal for the vast majority of comedy and entertainment, but I was hoping for better. ( )

I'm torn on how I felt about this book... and so I've resigned myself to just saying that it was good, but not for me.

I think this would be a great read for a bigger fan of SNL, or maybe for someone interested in how she got started as an improv artist. Someone who would recognize all the celebrity name-drops and be able to make sense of them.

Amy shares stories with us from her youth as a school age girl playing class clown, to her high school years and then into college... To her plight as a young and starving improv artist and into her career slowly rising to what it is today. She touches on her failed marriage and writes about becoming a mother to her two young boys. However... absolutely none of it is in order.

At the end of each chapter, you jump ten years this way or fifteen years that way with no rhyme or reason. It's enough to give you whiplash.

This was my largest obstacle in enjoying the book, along with a few jokes and skits stretched too long to do anything other than fall flat.

I was enamored of her stories about going moon hunting with her boys, or her theory on time traveling forward and backward in our lives just by being present in the moment.

Unfortunately, the clunkiness of the rest of the book takes away from the strong chapters. ( )

You have to go with the Audio book! No other way to be completely entertained! ( )

This book is heavy. Perhaps that's because it's so firmly packed with wit and insight. Fans of Poehler and her offbeat characters expect her to be outrageous and there's some of that here, but mostly this is a sweet, funny memoir and a thoughtful look at what it takes to be a woman. In fact, there's lots of advice given here, and it's smart, the kind of stuff your favorite aunt would tell you, albeit, an aunt who once shot a moose on the "Weekend Update" set while rapping alongside Sarah Palin. She addresses how to treat your career (like a bad boyfriend); how not to torture other women about their life choices; ways to shut people up about your newly single status ("Hey, lady, I don't want to fuck your husband"). With so much to enjoy and absorb, you may even want to carry this book around, reread it, and underline pertinent-to-your-own-life sentences, which would be perfectly reasonable, except for the fact that it's so darn heavy.
