Even mythical creatures need to learn to do their chores. FYI, there is a mermaid that just covers herself with her hands, so skip this one if that doesn't fit your family values.

Why am I picking this book?

The critters are cute, the story is cute, and Julia solves all her problems... until the next one at least. ( )

This was kind of accidentally the perfect picture book to pick up when I've been really stressed out about moving to a new house. If only I could have as many friendly creatures as Julia does living in my house. (That last guy would be REALLY helpful.) Great for kids and grownups alike! ( )

I absolutely loved Julia's House for Lost Creatures! The illustrations are beautiful and whimsical, just the way I like them; the concept is fun and original; and the text is creatively placed without being difficult to read.

For some reason, it reminded me of my mom's favorite picture book, [b:The Maggie B.|682747|The Maggie B.|Irene Haas|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1310653458l/682747._SX50_.jpg|669137] by [a:Irene Haas|37262|Irene Haas|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png]. The two books don't have a lot in common, but it was the first thing that came to mind when I started reading Julia's House for Lost Creatures.

I'd recommend this most for kids who love to rescue animals or want to own a lot of pets; fans of [a:Irene Haas|37262|Irene Haas|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/u_50x66-632230dc9882b4352d753eedf9396530.png], [b:Where the Wild Things Are|19543|Where the Wild Things Are|Maurice Sendak|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1384434560l/19543._SX50_.jpg|3020535], and [a:Andréa Wesson|443810|Andréa Wesson|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1285272865p2/443810.jpg]; and anyone who doesn't like when things get too quiet.

I really hope Ben Hatke writes some more picture books for children (maybe even more starring Julia and her lovely creatures?), because I can't wait to read them.
