Agatha Christie, move over! Hard-core sex and scandal meet in this brilliantly funny whodunit. A seaside village, an English country house, a family of wealthy eccentrics and their equally peculiar servants, a determined detective - all the ingredients are here for a cozy Agatha Christie-style whodunit. But wait - Edward "Mitch" Mitchell is no Hercule Poirot, and The Back Passage is no Murder of Roger Ackroyd. Mitch is a handsome, insatiable 22-year-old hunk who never lets a clue stand in the way of a steamy encounter, whether it's with the local constabulary, the house secretary, or his school chum and fellow athlete Boy Morgan, who becomes his Watson when they're not busy boffing each other. When Reg Walworth is found dead in a cabinet, Sir James Eagle has his servant Weeks immediately arrested as the killer. But Mitch's observant eye pegs more plausible possibilities: polysexual chauffeur Hibbert, queenly pervert Leonard Eagle, missing scion Rex, sadistic copper Kennington, even Sir James Eagle himself. Blackmail, police corruption, a dizzying network of spyholes and secret passages, watersports, and a nonstop queer orgy backstairs and everyplace else mark this hilariously hard-core mystery by a major new talent.… (lisätietoja)

A hot romp with Edward MITCH Mitchell who never lets a murder stop him from a quickie. When Reg Walworth is found dead in a closet, Mitch hops on the trail to find the killer screwing any man that steps in front of him. A funny tale set in 1920 England. ( )

Cross your classic British country manor mystery with the sexual shenanigans of a houseful of queers, and more that just a dead man's body is sure to tumble out of the closet. Lear's lusty homage to the classic whodunit format (sorry, Agatha) is wonderfully witty, mordantly, mysterious, and enthusiastically, unabashedly erotic!

This murder mystery set in 1920s England is compared in the novel's back copy to Agatha Christie (a little tongue-in-cheeky maybe), but it felt to me like a better ancestral comparison would be P.G. Wodehouse. Or maybe it's Christie plus Wodehouse plus a whole heap of queer sex on the page--perhaps that's the best description. However we're gonna call it, it was a delight of a romp, with a rash of shenanigans and just enough detecting in between the sexing to keep the plot rolling. This isn't a romance (the mystery gets solved but there's no love-story HEA), but it might appeal to readers of mystery-romance. I loved it, but do note that if sex on the page is not your bag, this is probably not for you. Oh, and yes, the title is a pun and it's exactly the pun you think it is. If that doesn't amuse you, also maybe this isn't the read for you. ( )

Damn. *Fans self*

Very pleasing. The mystery was eh... all right. But the uh.. other bits. Yesh. Also points for mentioning Sherlock Holmes about 10 times.

Oh. BTW: this is not M/M romance. This is gay smut meant to be read with one hand. veddy different. when I read some reviews that are like, "I don't understand! This isn't what I wanted!" it's like no, what? ( )

This is a silly, farcical romp of a whodunnit. Cambridge student and American, Edward "Mitch" Mitchell, is spending the weekend with friends in an English country manor in the summer of 1925 when a murder takes place within the home. He takes an interest in finding out the truth, but his progress is hindered by all the readily-available distractions; namely, all the randy men who permeate the unusual household.

The mystery was lacking but the absurdity was a lot of fun. Yes, this book is titillating as it is meant to be; however, the sex scenes were well written. I've always wondered what it would feel like to inhabit the body of a man; I'm curious about the differences between men's and women's bodies. I think the physical sensations males feel were described in a way that made me think, "Ah, I get it now." If Mr. Lear was being accurate/truthful in how those sensations feel and not just catering to what readers would like or expect, then I think there is a definite difference when the author is male than when a female author tries to explain certain aspects of anatomical reactions to stimulus (ahem).

This book made me think of the old Benny Hill skits where he's running around in fast-motion leering at everyone. That was our Mitch, always ready for anything, anyone, anywhere, anytime. This whole story was so ridiculous I was waiting for the epilogue to say, "It was only a dream..."

IT WAS THE HOTTEST DAY OF THE SUMMER OF 1925, with temperatures in the high 80s - not the ideal conditions for being indoors, in formal attire, squeezed into small, cramped spaces with other overheated, overdressed bodies.
