Bombs Over Bikini is a non-fiction book that discusses the United States' testing of atomic and hydrogen bombs over the Marshall Islands in the Pacific Ocean (specifically but not only effecting the Bikini Atoll). We thought it would be safe to test our nukes in the Pacific where we wouldn't impact people's lives. WRONG!! After testing airborne and underwater bombs we found that we contaminated the region and caused great harm to the indigenous people. On the plus side we found out how powerful and successful our nuclear program became. On the negative side we found out how much radioactive contamination can impact us. To this day, people are still not allowed to live on Bikini Atoll even though our last bomb test occurred in the mid to late 1950s. Excellent read that will help us understand we must never engage in nuclear warfare. ( )

You look back at history and shake your head at how ignorant we were. Who believed testing nuclear bombs would not affect the environment or the people of the Marshall Islands? Arrogant, ignorant American officials. A shocking piece of history with a compelling lesson that continues to impact the Marshallese to this day. ( )
