Mirrors Don't Lie by Selena Haskins Review written by Jackie Paulson © 2013 As Selena Haskins writes her story it reminds me of myself. I could identify with the "a mirror will always tell you the truth about yourself." She entertains the reader with scriptures to bring out the truth of her life and uses the symbol of the mirror to analyze her life story to reveal a story of truth that most women, teens, moms, single mom and burnt out women go through. If you are a Christian than this story will zap you into a reality that will transform your life style. Do you always rush, juggle many tasks, and care for everyone but yourself? I know I am "guilty" of this for sure being a woman who grew up pleasing everyone so as not to get in trouble and keep the family peace at all times. What about you? Life is like a Farris wheel where we all go around and around until the lessons are learned and we can move on to the next level of life. It's as if God intertwines this into our life to help bless everyone around us that is in need of what we have to offer as our natural gifts. The author’s gift of writing will do just that. As I write to share and entertain my story I wish to tell the truth. As a non-Christian growing up in a dysfunctional family of the 1960's my life turnout out wonderful even though God was not my personal Lord and Savior until Oct of 1990. Here it is 2013 and I share this because the story the author writes spirit fills me with words to share with all of you. In my life I thought I married for life and then one day my husband walked out on our marriage and our daughter whom was 1.5 years old. I did the best I could raising my now 19 year old daughter and she turnout out wonderful, smart and in college by the grace of God. As the author tells us, the "secular work is unforgiving and unsympathetic." She as well as I kept burning the candle at both ends to meet all the demands around us. In the end we both have doctors’ appointments, therapy, and medications to put a bandage over the wounds we carried. She finished her first book "A River Move’s forward": Selena lived her life fully and was great at "pretending" that everything was find. She didn’t have a problems so she thought, she was superwoman, and she felt she could handle everything! Oh how many of us women feel that same way! But one day she looks into the mirror and God spoke to her directly and that message changed her life forever. She learned how to slow down, delegate tasks, and organize her life to stay healthy and happy. In conclusion Selena states, “Overall, I learned that putting myself first doesn't make me a selfish person; it makes me a woman who loves herself enough to realize that she’s important too.” Mirrors Don't Lie by Selena Haskins Review written by Jackie Paulson © 2013 As Selena Haskins writes her story it reminds me of myself. What I enjoyed from this novel....
I enjoyed reading from these six good author's... their version of 'Life.' They all really had some inspiring short stories about their personal and important moment in their lives that were a good encouragement to all who reads for it. Be ready for a stories of "self doubt, challenges and disappointments."
I found each author anthology had its own unique and personal message with such a deep lesson that was learned from their own particular lives. Each ones life's weren't perfect but they were able to rise above it all so well....and look at them now definitely having over come the odds. I believe each of these author showed that they wrote from their heart with each intimate story showing such emotions that can be conquered. These are definitely stories that can be related and pass on to others who are dealing with such issues such as 'hardships, love, conflict, loss, redemption and the salvation through God's healing love."
