I received this book as a part of the Early Reviewers selection on Library Thing. I was surprised as I thought the book would be about presentations - such as using a power point presentation (you can see that I knew nothing about Slide Share as an presentation model). This book focuses on presenting ideas & communicating for
business. If you use or want to use (or have to use) Slide Share - than this book is for you. If you want to learn more about Slide Share, their website is included in the book and you can google it. There are eight
chapters with easy to follow graphics. Before buying the book, I would recommend that you go to their website and see if this platform makes sense for your use..... (which is most often going to be in a business setting). Then you will know if you should buy the book. It is well written and easy to follow. i just don't think with my work environment that I would ever use the platform/program. ( )

Rather than being another book on presentation skills, Present Yourself highlights using SlideShare to grow your business, organizational or personal branding. With the introduction of SlideShare in 2006, suddenly presenters could publicly publish and share their PowerPoint presentations. Started as “YouTube for PowerPoint,” SlideShare is now a full-scale multimedia publishing platform. With the acquisition of SlideShare by LinkedIn in 2012, a whole new world of opportunities continues to open up.Time for a wrap up of all these functions and possibilities to help you. The importance of visual storytelling, as well as the basics of setting up an SlideShare account are the book openers. SlideShare can be used for all kinds of speaking engagements. A proper use will increase your SEO. Selling and research, journalism or raising awareness for your NGO, government or cause through SlideShare are dealed with. Numerous hyperlinks, real life examples from SlideShare users and additional cross-functionalities like going viral by sharing your presentations on LinkedIN, Pinterest, Facebook, and content curation at Scoop.it are useful tips as well. Hands-on, presenters! ( )

The chapter on Recruiting, Hiring, and Getting Hired was particularly informative. I really like the idea of a visual resume. ( )

Present Yourself is not about making great presentations - except for a few pages on how to tell a story, the author leaves content creation to others. Once you have material, however, this book helps get it noticed, thereby getting you that job, or getting those funds for your startup.

The book introduces the reader to the digital world of slide share, along with other sites that allow publicizing across the web. It serves as a great primer to this world for startups and jobseekers alike, with links to the sites and step by step guides. There is also a good description of free features, the value of premium content, and some dos and don'ts for connecting to other social media sites. Actual case histories are provided to highlight examples of uses and benefits. This book is well organized and will appeal to those who want to get acquainted with digital means of promoting their personal and business brands. ( )
