Because the guests invited to Sallie's wedding believe that a proper celebration requires their specific ethnic food, they prepare delicacies from around the world.

Judy Cox wrote a great story about preparing for a wedding and all the work that goes into such a beautiful day. AS someone who is currently planning a wedding, I can attest to the fact that it is definitely not a task for the faint of heart. My students loved reading this book because they know I am planning a wedding and they love to hear about all the different plans and parties and such.

Community is such an important thing in life. The entire building works together to plan a wedding that is extra special and full of love. Not only that, but the entire building is full of different people from different cultures, meaning the food for the wedding will be as diverse as its guests. This book praises diversity and acceptance of others. ( )

This book was absolutely wonderful. I love reading books about different cultures and foods! This book took readers through the ways that people plan for a wedding. Everyone feels that there cannot be a wedding without a signature dish, from their culture. I love the part when the illustrations show the different foods spread out on the table and the happy faces of the people who made them. The last page of the book is a collage of photos from the wedding, showing people from different cultures coming together and enjoying the company of one another. I think this book would be great to read in a classroom to expose children to the different kinds of people and culture, while at the same time showing them people can be unified, even if they are different. In this book, you find a little girl help each neighbor fix a dish for her sister's wedding. While the little girl helps make the different dishes from different types of cultures. with each dish that she helps make, she is told about the meaning that the dish has in that one specific culture. This shows students how different other cultures celebrate and what their food mean to me. Overcoming differences, the outcome is the same happiness. ( )

In this cute story by Judy Cox, Sally’s wedding is coming, and she invites all the people who live in her apartment building. All of the kind neighbors who are from different countries are preparing food for the party. Sally has a cute little sister, and she helps everyone make the food, “ As Sallie’s sister travels from apartment to apartment, she helps her neighbors prepare scrumptious wedding delicacies from around the world: Tamales from Mexico, Tatar wedding pie from Russia, harmonizing steamed cakes from China, and much more. Everything is made with love to celebrate the wedding. When all the dishes are done, Sally’s little sister notices that something is missing, “What is a wedding without rice?” she makes circles of net full of rice and wraps them in fabrics. It is a tradition thing in her culture to wish the bride and her groom luck, happiness, and many children. This simple and repetitive story is an interesting book for young readers to enjoy learning about some kind of food from different cultures. I like how this book shows the excitement of sharing a happy occasion with friends and neighbors. In the last page, the author provides brief information about the secret behind some of the wedding delicacies. For instance, Biscotti di Nodo or, Italian knot cookies is symbolizing two lives joined together. ( )

Sally is getting married and her sister is traveling all around their apartment complex to help everyone who is attending the wedding to cook. There are many different dishes from different cultures that Sally’s sister is helping cook. Things such as dolmades, challah, wedding pie and many other dishes. This is a really diverse book. Everyone is coming together for a special occasion and they are bringing of piece of their culture to the wedding. I don’t think I have been to wedding with such a diverse food menu. Just reading the book made me want to try all those different foods in real life. I liked the book because I am such a food person and I do love a good wedding. ( )
