I've read this book twice now and I still couldn't tell you anything about it. Since I can remember details from books that I read 25 years ago, it's telling that this one doesn't kick up anything. ( ) An enjoyable read but the female lead annoyed me a bit - I can see where the author was going but it got bogged down trying to impress on us the character's need to leave one relationship without just going from man to man. I got that she wanted to be all independent and didn't want to leave a bad situation only to end up in another but this section was just about 3 chapters too long. That was my impression anyway. Apart from that this is a pretty good "switch off" read. FINALLY!! An original l story!! This is the first book I have read by Tess Oliver and all I could think when I finished reading it was 'Oh, so that is what a five star book is like.' I am tempted to go back and remove a star from all of my previous reviews (except for my beloved Outlander of course). I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good story. I forced myself to stop reading several times just so that I could draw out the process of reading this book, that is how much I liked it. First, the cover. Yum! Need I say more? Yeah, I didn't think so. Second, love the characters. Nix had a rough childhood but was mild compared to what Scotlyn had been through (love her name by the way, and the meaning behind it... too sweet). So, Scotlyn is mute but Nix has no trouble understanding her and treating her like a human being. The depth of these characters made me feel like they were real people just sitting in front of me telling their story, and really that is the highest praise I can give to a book. I can picture each one of them (even the supporting characters) in my mind like they were long lost friends. I was curious how the author was going to write the dialog between Nix and Scotlyn and I was worried it would be annoying. I could not have been more wrong. It was so refreshing to read a book that did not feel like it was created from a formula. And even though their connection was fast it did not feel like insta-love, more like insta-caring. Tess Oliver is now an author the I will read without hesitation and I can only say that about a handful of authors. Well done! näyttää 4/4 ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
