Basically it's cut out time you are wasting on other things and just do the work and set yourself quarterly goals. That's it! I do this on a monthly basis which is how I tend to have a lot of research output. One day I will sent up my templates for others to download. ( ) The premise is the following: most business (authors claim up to 40%) is done in the last 12 weeks before Christmas. People slack off less, etc. But New Year is an arbitrary deadline. Authors suggest just to keep setting 12week deadlines to keep yourself well stressed. My advice: just read Getting Results the Agile Way: A Personal Results System for Work and Life and get a system that works, esp. for people in intellectual occupation where reflection and prioritisation across multiple projects is important for future success. I have been keenly interested in doing a better job at managing all the different balls I have in the air. As a result, I have been reading a number of books like The 5 AM Miracle, and most recently, Brian Morgan and Michael Lennington's book, The 12 Week Year: Get More Done in 12 Weeks than Others Do in 12 Months*.
