Each book in this series is like a visit with old friends. I imagine I could take a walk on Tlokweng Road and perhaps see Mma Ramotswe’s vintage white van parked in the shade near the office of The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency. “Gentle” is not a word I usually apply to mystery stories, but these books are surely that. The people are far more important and valuable than the plot. Smith builds some good, sometimes a lot of good, into nearly every character, and makes me impatient for the net visit. ( )
I love these books. Mostly it's the charm of the writing and language, but the setting takes me to a place I'd love to see. I hope it really exists as written here. ( )
