This is a pretty good read, about John Taylor's world travels around Christmastime in the 1630s and his return to England. It's partly fictionalized, I strongly suspect. Taylor is VERY funny, and cracks a lot of dirty jokes. This is a light read. If your only experience with 17th century English is Shakespeare, you will be pleasantly surprised to find this much easier to understand. Essentially it's only the peculiar and inconsistent spelling that presents a problem for a modern reader and you adjust to that pretty quickly. One other source of trouble, but also a delight, are the many references to foods and customs that no longer exist. You will have to Google them, but that's half the point of reading a book like this in the first place. ( ) ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
