I really enjoyed it!

This one I didn't enjoy as much as I did the first Kasie West I read, P.S. I Like You, but it was still enjoyable. The romance was sweet, but super insta-lovey, and Caymen irritated me a lot throughout the book with her prejudiced behaviour towards rich people, but oh well don't we all do the same? (sadly, there is some amount of prejudice in everyone's minds)

Honestly I don't even have much to say about this in the first place, which is what makes me taking a whole month to write this even weirder. I should have just written this the day I finished but oh i was too busy reading fanfiction

Let's see, I enjoyed Xander, but he was a bit too extra at times, then again, he is a rich boy, so...oh well. Caymen, as I said before, seriously irritated me. And then when we find out at the end that her prejudice was mostly ill founded, made it even worse. I have to say this, I'm not particularly a fan of destroying prejudices in characters by telling them that they were founded just to protect them by their parents. God, just grow up, parents, and teach them unbiased stuff.

Caymen's friends were...okay? Just super bland? And Caymen herself doesn't make getting good friends easy, does she. I have no idea where I was going with this sentence, I'm supposed to be listening to the whistles form the pressure cooker and I got distracted.

I did not enjoy the insta-love in this and neither the love triangle, and I honestly have no idea why teen romances just have to end with a declaration of love. Why can't we leave these characters in the like-but-maybe-be-able-to-love-each-other-in-the-future phase? why does there just have to be a love declaration?

Anyway, the narration for the audiobook was good, I loved the way I was able to differentiate all the voices, and it was at a pretty good speed, I didn't have to increase it much.

I'm just stopping here because there is literally nothing else of note in this. It's just an amazingly feel-good novel, like most of Kasie West's, I think. I recommend it to fans of Kasie West, though don't expect PS I Like You level of goodness, don't mind love triangles and insta-love, and enjoy the rich guy peasant girl trope (well, not exactly peasant, but you know, it sounds good, so I'm just going to leave it like that) ( )

YA. Brought to mind "Pretty in Pink" as only teen drama influenced by social position can. Cayman Meyers is an overly-responsible teenage girl who lives with her single mother, Susan, above her mother's porcelain doll shop in a touristy CA ocean town. Her mother has warned Cayman about the perils of rich people who will use and abuse her, based on her own single-motherhood experience. Cayman sees the store failing and is trying desperately to prevent this from happening by working long hours, developing a website, planning to put off college and other tactics to keep them afloat, meanwhile hating every minute of it. Her mother, for her part, is behaving mysteriously with unexplained absences, Dr. phone messages, and a shady guy who keeps coming around the store. This is a lot to shoulder, but with the help of her best friend Sky, Cayman is managing. Then boys enter the picture. First is Xander Spence, a "rich kid" obvious from the car he drives, to the clothes he wears to the hotel owning family he belongs to. He takes an interest in Cayman and although she has been warmed about rich boys, she develops a friendship with him and sees that her mother's stereotyping is not true. Then there is Mason, a funky, lead singer in a band with Sky's boyfriend. They are much more compatible socio-economically, but not as much in the heart. Cayman has some life lessons to learn, as well as her own family history and background and the role money plays in it. Sweet enough and appreciated that it was pretty "clean" as far as language and sex goes. The title refers to not only the gulf between Cayman and Spencer, but also between Cayman and her mother as secrets pile up and communication breaks down. Some decent surprises, but overall nothing earth-shatteringly new. ( )

The Distance Between Us is a classic tale of average (on the verge of struggling) meets rich when Caymen meets Xander in her mom’s doll shop. Due to her mother’s disdain for the rich lifestyle, Caymen views the rich similarly, though there is something about Xander that she cannot let go of. Soon the two begin hanging out and Caymen learns more about herself, and her past, and well… you can’t help who you fall in love with, can you?

This book is a very light and cute read. For myself, it was easy to kind of relate to Caymen’s character and the relationship she has with her mom as well as the struggles her and her mom go through. Though the only difference is that my mother is as sarcastic as I am… that’s where I got it from!

I think what I enjoyed most was the sarcastic banter between the characters. It helped to lighten up parts of the story and just made it fun to read. But overall, I would say this is more like a book that I’d read once, and that’s it. It wasn’t anything that really sticks with me, but I definitely would recommend this book if you’re looking for a light read! ( )

Someone suggested I try Audible escapes for a free month. Romance isn’t normally my thing, but there are some good classics included. This one is a lighter teen romance. Super steamy isn’t for me, so this one is more of a sweet first boyfriend plot. I liked the main character’s sarcasm, the side plot with her mom, and the doll shop setting. The perfect rich boyfriend feels a bit too fake. Light, but forgettable because I’m trying to listen to as many as I can while it’s free, so they tend to blend together a bit. ( )

My eyes burn a hold in the page. I should know this. I can usually dissect a science equation easily, but the answer isn't coming to me. The bell on the door dings. I quickly tuck my homework beneath the counter and look up. A guy on a cell phone walks in.
