A well-done second book in a trilogy. There is enough information included that it isn't necessary to have read the first book, but with a well-paced story and interesting characters, most readers will want to. In this installment, Sera and Zen are living in 1609, hoping to stay well away from the Diotech Corporation but everything changes when Zen falls ill and Sera is accused of witchcraft. A last minute rescue by a Kaelen, another being created by Diotech, forces Sera into an unwanted alliance to save Zen's life. The story ends on a cliffhanger that will have readers eagerly waiting for the next book.
