I gave the individual stories 4, 3, and 4 stars. I wasn't 'blown away', but I definitely was entertained. Which says something because 'magical' stuff isn't really my jam. I found these stronger than the prequels.

2nd read- I got ahold of the audiobooks so I gave these another go. I like that each is a compact little tale, but there's a fair amount is packed into them, and they're all tied together like a book in three parts. ( )

Overall these are erotic historical romance with some paranormal elements. The trilogy was offered as a free eBook from Amazon for a short period.

I might have given this a 4 star if it wasn't novellas. Since it was a compilation of 3 novellas involving 3 berserkers, the story is not in depth and completely realized as it could have been in a full length novel. My main disappointment was the length.

Having said that each story was different and furthered the story of the previous story giving satisfaction and a little completion.

The first story, only a little more than 60 pages, is right on the edge of erotica and I would call it erotic romance. Roderick cannot speak and the tension builds while the serving wench brings meals and drinks. The end gives a little more understanding of berserker mating but you are left not knowing much. The sex is steamy with a lots of chemistry.

The second story, just under 100 pages, is of the first berserker's older brother Conner. It is very different as in the middle of a berserker rage, his berserker chooses his mate for him. The rest of the story is him trying to except her and get her to except him, while essentially kidnapping her. You get a lot more of how the berserker mating works and get to see the first couple and castle life.

The third story, as long as the first two combined, has a berserker coming to town to try to kill the first two. On the way he finds a abandoned baby in the snow. Finding a wet nurse for him leads him to a woman he react to much differently than any others. The woman is to interview for position as wet nurse for one of the wife's of the 1st two berserkers. The story is more complicated and involved but the mating seems a little rushed. Still the chemistry is there and you want to read until the end.

I really enjoyed these and read form the beginning to end of each story. I would've like each one to be a little longer in places but understand that that is how novellas are. For the quick reads, it was great and all three together make it much fuller a story overall. ( )

Very interesting story...would love to have all three MacLauchlan brothers with a more definitive story line about their past lives and leading up to the claiming of their mates. But this still made for a good short story. ( )
