As long as no one asks and they don't tell...

First class petty officer Eric Randall is less than thrilled about taking orders to Okinawa. Three long, lonely years on a crappy island that's thousands of miles from his daughter? Oh. Yeah. Sign him up. But as long as he's stuck here, he might as well make the best of it, so he discreetly checks out the local gay scene.

Shane nearly drops his drink when the gorgeous, cocky-looking guy strolls into Palace Habu. He buys him a drink, and before long, they're making out in a booth. Eric is a straight-to-the-point kind of guy and doesn't want to play games. Since Eric's idea of not playing games is getting the hell out of there and going back to one of their apartments, Shane is more than happy to go along with it.

What starts as a scorching-hot one-night stand leaves both of them wanting more...until Eric finds out Shane doesn't just outrank him, he's an officer. DADT may be repealed, but an officer getting involved with an enlisted man falls under conduct unbecoming.

Still, they can't resist their mutual desire. There's no reason anyone has to find out. But secrets have a way of outing themselves.

Warning: Contains two military boys who keep forgetting they're not supposed to be together. Probably because they never have their uniforms on for any length of time...

I wanted to like this one more than I did. I didn't have trouble reading it, and the plot is okay, and the guys are okay, and I liked that the ending was not pat, that there's more. The best part were all the details about Okinawa. Solid three stars for setting and good characters and acceptable plot.

However: Great as these dads are, and visceral as their attraction feels, they still read a little flat to me, and part of that is because they say the exact same phrases, as if they were raised in the same town. "Don't worry about it." "Don't mention it." "Tell me about it." and a few more. All the time. Part of learning to write fiction is getting past our own habits of speech to make each character unique. I know this because I am learning by writing a book. It's not easy. But an editor should've pointed this out. That is what a good editor is for. ( )

I'll admit that L.A. Witt is an author I know I'll enjoy. There's just something about her MC's and settings that manages to take me away and show me a good time or touches me in some way. This book is no exception.

Two smoking hot military men with great personalities and hot sex... Scenery that is described in beautiful details so you feel that you are there with them. Honestly what more do you want? I couldn't put the book down and that is more than enough for me. ( )

As you can see it took me days to read this book. I can't really say why since I enjoyed both the story and the characters. But I found I would read a couple of chapters then put it down for hours at a time. I think this was probably due to the alternate 1st person POV switches. I didn't find this a particularly easy way to read and found I needed to actively concentrate on the POVs, more than I would normally.

The conflict was blatant and spelled out at the very start of the relationship so you knew what was coming just not when and the nerves waiting for what event would cause the relationship to crash and burn increased as the book progressed further through the percentage bar. When it finally happened, even though I expected it, the actual fact of it reduced me to tears.

4.5 stars, because this is a book I should have steamed though in days and I can only blame that POV issue that it took a week. ( )

So boring. I couldn't tell the two main characters apart: they were both military men, divorced with kids. Yeah, okay so one had twins and the other just a teenage daughter, but still. Oh, and they both liked the same things: they were always checking out some ancient castle or going snorkeling (oh, right: one has a Nikon camera and the other has a Canon; big difference).

It wasn't badly written, though. Spelling, grammar, punctuation were all good. I just wish there was a story here. I finally got so bored at 3/4 through that I just put it down and went on to the next one on my TBR pile. ( )

Why books on military don't offer more info on ranking? I had to google all that to get an idea on the ranking, officer vs. enlisted and such. Does everyone know the rankings but me? I don't understand these strict rules on friendship and dating in the military. They are on the same side.

Story sen in an island in Japan. Navy guys, lust, outdoor sex, lots of eating and exploring. They date when they shouldn't. Not much mystery or angst here. Only how they will solve their dilemma.

LA. Witt is always a hit or miss for me, this one was a hit.

I want to read book 2. ( )
