It's been awhile since I read the last book in her Laws of the Blood series and I know there was something inter-related to this book that happened but I can't remember. For all that, it was an enjoyable quick read. ( ) I've read the other books in this series, and enjoyed them more than I did this. It felt like the two main characters, Ivy the mortal and Christopher the vampire, kept getting sidetracked from their goals to go have sex. But they were not sure they liked each other, and certainly didn't trust each other. This was clearly written by a romance writer concentrating more on the spicy scenes and interior monologues than on the mystery and adventure that usually drives a plot. I prefer more mystery and adventure in supernatural fiction than what I found here. Not a bad book, but not the right balance of elements for my taste. I suspect that fans of romance novels would enjoy it. Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Guest Reviewer - Kathy M: I wasn’t familiar with author Susan Sizemore’s work and so I was wonderfully surprised by how much I enjoyed Personal Demon. Someone or something is committing horrifying murders with dark magic involved and Ivy Bailey, one of Chicago’s vampire hunters, is given the task of stopping the killings. Unfortunately, Vampire Enforcer Christopher Bell has his own investigation going on which keeps derailing Ivy’s mission. One of my favorite aspects of this book is the bantering and bickering that goes one between these two. Personal Demon has the perfect balance of darkness and snarkiness. When I first started reading this book, I wasn’t aware that it was part of a series, The Laws Of The Blood Novels. Just a short way into Personal Demon, I knew that I would be getting the first 5 books of this series. It was just that good. I happily give Personal Demon 5 skulls. Review courtesy of All Things Urban Fantasy PERSONAL DEMON is difficult book to review. Not because it’s bad, but because it’s so average on just about every level. The characters are fine though not really memorable, the plot is descent though nothing that really captivates, and the romance was pretty standard without any real excitement. There was never a scene that compelled me to keep reading, but there wasn’t anything that put me off either. It’s the kind of book you read because there isn’t anything else around. There were a couple revelations about Ivy that were moderately interesting as they had implications on the longevity of the romance, but I wish there had been more. The villain has several chapters written from his point of view, which may disturb some readers as he briefly discusses what he does to his victims including sexual mutilation. It’s not graphic, but it is there. As a demonic Jack the Ripper, you can imagine. Even though PERSONAL DEMON is the sixth book in the Laws of Blood series, it reads like a complete standalone. I haven’t read the previous installments, so there may have been references to past books, but new readers won’t ever feel like they missed anything. All in all, it reminded me of a weaker Victoria Nelson novel, but if you enjoy sexier urban fantasy, you might like PERSONAL DEMON. Sexual Content: Sex scenes. References to rape. References to postmortem sexual mutilation. näyttää 4/4 ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
