This book would be great for Primary and Intermediate reading levels This is an amazingly illustrated, wordless picture book about one girls kindness to a runaway during the Civil War. Story is complex and students may need to be prompted to notice details to understand book fully. I would use for 2nd to 4th grade to talk about character, bravery, and American history. I would not necessarily ask students to add words but could ask to recall the storyline. This is the kind of picture book you look at over and over again, seeing new details and telling it to yourself differently each time. Wonderful wordless storytelling. A kid would probably need to have some background information on the underground railroad to fully understand it. The art super reminded me of [a:Brian Selznick|38120|Brian Selznick|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1201028714p2/38120.jpg]'s illustrations in Hugo Cabret and Wonderstruck. This book would be good for all grade levels to teach or reinforce dictation skills. It could also be used to teach about the underground railroad and different art medias. This book is about a girl who lives on a farm in the south and discovers a slave in her families shed, she tells no one and starts bringing him food, then when he leaves, he leaves a doll for her as a thanks. Unspoken is a wordless picture book about a young girl hiding a slave in the South during the Civil War. I think this book could be used in 1st grade to 8th grade. This story could be used in so many ways, from asking students to write what the notice about the story to starting a history section on slavery. ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
