When I read the first book I was hooked and I wanted to know more about the Loner as well as the Last Gunfighter, his Dad. I think they could have interwoven their stories a little more and had some kind of reunion at the end. ( ) Title: Bullets Don’t Die (Loner #15) Author: J. A. Johnstone E-book Pages: 321 Year: 2012 Publisher: Pinnacle My rating: 5 out of 5 stars Conrad Browning, also known as Kid Morgan, is one character I have enjoyed reading about in the western genre. Just because this book is the last of this series, know that there are other novels where this character again surfaces to the applause of this reviewer! Conrad Browning, as he was formerly known, now goes by the name of Kid Morgan riding the western range landing wherever the wind blows him. Conrad has exceptional skill and prowess with a firearm but also has the mental acuity that saves lives, including his own. He never goes looking for trouble but like his father, Frank Morgan, also known as the Drifter, they are usually needed where they drift. In this western tale, the Kid comes across a retired town marshal whose mind sometimes is in the present. Jaren Tate is supposed to be living with his daughter when he crosses path with the Kid, just when the Kid’s life is in mortal danger. After Tate saves the Kid’s life, the two are inseparable. When they ride into Copperhead Springs Jared Tate rides right into trouble not realizing he is ill-prepared to meet a threat. Sometime later, after more encounters with the town folk, Kid is traveling with Tate to take him back to the daughter who will care for him, but those plans are interrupted when Tate and Kid stop to visit friends and resupply. The Loner series is the best of western action as well as adventure. From start to finish the author crafts a gripping character named Conrad Browning with his past playing into what he chooses to leave behind and what he takes into the life he current leads. I think reading the series from start to finish helped me see how the main character’s past really influenced the choices he made as he faced various scenarios. Audiences will enjoy the way this character can be a gentleman from the east one moment, and a man of intense action the next. If you enjoy Conrad Browning, you’ll enjoy reading more about him and his father Frank Morgan in the Last Gunfighter series. Conrad is also part of the recent story The Gold Mine Massacre with the Jensen family in the series titled The Jensen Brand.
