Brimming with energy thanks mostly to Gammell's artwork. The baby is the laugh-out-loud character but the whole family is ready to party. The baby's just an excuse.

I enjoyed reading this book because of the plot, the illustrations, and the descriptive language. This story is about an outgoing baby who laughs out loud for the first time. The baby's family is so intrigued by this that they decide to throw a laugh-out-loud party and invite all the relatives and neighbors. I loved the plot for this story because it is very original and fun. The story is centered around a cute baby who laughs for the first time. The illustrations go right along with the story because they fit well with the text to accurately depict the emotions of the family members and the baby. The illustrations have fun paint colors and they show all of the family members throwing the baby in the air and passing him around. The language in this story is very descriptive, which fully engages the readers into understanding the excitement the family had from the baby laughing. "That small spill of happiness went rippling through the house- a dazzle, a jazzle, a shine. We all knew it was the sound of joy". ( )

If this book doesn't make you smile, make you laugh, make you happy - well, I don't know what will. The author's note regarding the Navajo celebration of a baby's first laugh is interesting. I can think of few things better to celebrate. Go ahead, laugh!
