By 2013, the American economy is sliding under the rising tide of over spending and increasing indebtedness. Five years following the2008 bursting of the great consumer bubble, the country is dangerously over-leverageand under-employed. Unable to balance spending with earned income, the United States is becoming aware of the what the true costs associated with theoff-shoring of so many of its higher paying manufacturing jobs, might havebeen. Concluding the restoration of the economy is dependent on re-establishment of the relative competitiveness ofmanufacturing in America, Sentinels designate that restoration of manufacturingemployment has to become the critical test by which historical and proposedprograms are evaluated. Understanding the relative costs of production are determine by the total of seven separate categories of expenses, of which direct labor costs only represents onesegment, the Sentinels set about to determine what needs to be changed. Well entrenchedprograms favoring foreign oil production, domestic power generation, the American labor movement, inadequatejob training, corporate taxation, and increasing costs associated with growing regulations, need to be questioned. The Sentinels' "Employ America" requires them to divide the challenges into separate segments, with each one assume responsibility for itssuccessful resolution. The story told through the evolving lives of theprincipal players on both sides of the ensuing conflict, unfolds over fourcontinents. Follow the events in the lives of the next generation, as theypursue their objectives. Romance, disappointment, peril, trust, betrayal, hidden, prospects for success are never very far away.… (lisätietoja)

I wanted to like this book. I just couldn't. It was poorly written, and bereft of any story. I like didactic fiction, but this was all didactic and no fiction. I could not force myself to finish this book. Don't read it. ( )

Not sure why I bothered to request this book. I couldn't finish the last one and couldn't finish this one either. It has nothing to do with the writing style or that I think the writing isn't good, I just have not been able to engross myself in these books. The parts I have read are very well written and obviously the writer has an end game with a story littered with secrets and twists. I just wish this was something I could get into. ( )

So this is fiction meets Economics 101! DRY! DRY! DRY! I couldn't even finish it, let alone imagine writing it. I am all about looking at things through the author's perspective, but it seemed like the author was searching within his own conspiracy theory. The writing itself wasn't what I considered literary either! It was written like an office memorandum! There was absolutely no character development, in addition to the introduction of characters that the reader never hears about again! FLUFF! This is what you have someone read in detention! Two stars for getting it published! ( )

Recommended for political junkies who sometimes like reading, but not the other way around!

I thought this story is a great mix of current events/facts, danger, fun and even a little romance. I appreciated seeing how the author’s ideas about increasing the USA’s domestic manufacturing jobs played out, but the action made it more interesting. The characterization was minor but effective. I most of the people were described in some previous “Sentinels” book, but I didn’t need to know all of it to enjoy the story.

This was a fascinating social theory and a narrative illustrating how it would be implemented, held together with more traditional story elements. I liked parts of the “Employ American” plan, but even though I didn’t completely agree with all of it, I was invested in the main characters and kept reading to find if they would succeed. This is a nice story about achieving something proactive instead of reacting as well, which set a pleasant tone. ( )

The story is a fictional thriller taking place around 2010 with a premise of what would happen should companies in the USA once more begin to actually make the things they sell here, in the USA. The author has one of the most unique ideas for a storyline, I've seen in a while and as such was the reason I requested this book. However, once I began to read the story, although well written grammatically, it seemed to me as if it would be something I would be forced to read for a class in school, as opposed to a novel. Although there was a vague attempt at a storyline involving countries such as China and India, as well as various key players, to me it really wasn't developed well.
It is clear from the writing mechanics the author understands the world economy and how it affects the USA. When it came to the characters, I found them to be unbelievable, unrelatable, drunkards for the most part. Instead of the time spent telling us about the single malt scotches, etc. I would have liked for the author to develop other areas in the story.
For instance, at one point the labor unions are worried about workforce and they bring up the idea that one reason we have so much umemployment is that some people just don't want to work and get off the government handouts. Instead of delving into this and further explaining things, by the end of the page every thing is working out terrific. Problem solved. Then when the two women were kidnapped, he glosses over the entire scene barely skimming the surface.
Honestly, I only finished the story because I was given an advance copy of the book to review. ( )
