In Death 36

Listened to audio narrated by Susan Ericksen. I like this narrator and for the most part enjoyed her narration, as I've said before the voice she uses for Trina is awful and doesn't fit the character.

Eve must solve the murder of a well-loved, mother and wife. She's an auditor and Eve and the crew must narrow down the suspects to uncover who is killing to protect themselves. As the killer devolves, Eve puts herself on the line to bag her killer.

In the previous book in the series, the victim was universally disliked, whereas the first victim was well loved. The author also spent a lot of time on Eve misquoting common sayings, which at first was amusing but towards the end seemed too much.

Robb's stories are hit and miss, but I liked this one. The murder of an accountant means that this time, Eve has to rely on the knowledge of her business mogul husband to find the answers to this very unsavory crime. Somehow that isn't boring, and it has every right to be. ( )

The investigation into the murder of an accountant sends New York Police and Security Department detective Lieutenant Eve Dallas into the world of financial fraud. Will she find the culprits who use financial misdeeds for their own greedy purposes?

The thirty-sixth installment of the “In Death” series, with its strong sense of place in the near future, puts Eve’s investigation solidly in Roarke’s world of high finance. As always, the unfolding of the story, with its intricate plot, spotlights the investigative work as the characters continue to grow and evolve.

With a strong focus on the supporting players in the cast, readers will appreciate seeing the continued development of their skills. The camaraderie, banter, and repartee between the characters, the ever-evolving relationships . . . these are the heart and soul of the “In Death” stories.

Highly recommended. ( )

A woman is found dead at the bottom of the stairs on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. She has been stripped of all of her valuables, but something doesn’t fit the bill. Though most cops would call this a mugging gone wrong, Lieutenant Eve Dallas knows better. Marta Dickenson was a well-off accountant, a beloved wife and mother and generally a good person who doesn’t seem to be the type to be on anyone’s hit list, but when Eve and her partner, Peabody, find blood inside the building, the lieutenant realises that Marta’s murder was the work of a trained killer. Eve must immerse herself in her billionaire husband Roarke’s world of big business to figure out who’s cruel and callous enough to hire a hit on an innocent woman. And as the killer’s violent streak begins to escalate, Eve knows she has to draw him out, even if it means using herself as bait.

Calculated in Death by J.D. Robb is a part of a long list of books in a series that readers simply can’t get enough of. Yet, even though the series has many books, it’s not a redundant story with a recycled plot line. It’s thrilling, seducing and exciting as all In Death novels basically are and with Eve Dallas – a strong, intelligent and memorable heroine – you’ll never truly get enough of her. What’s more is that with the twists and turns, you’ll find yourself trying to figure out J.D. Robb’s next move throughout the story, but let me assure you that it’s not necessarily as easy as it sounds. The In Death novels are all about unpredictability and it’s really quite an adventure at the end of the day, especially since it’s a little different than your typical detective mysteries. If you’re a fan of the In Death series, you’re absolutely going to LOVE Calculated in Death, and if you’re only being introduced to the series, well this book is the right one to get you addicted to Eve Dallas’ murder mysteries. Not to mention, Roarke is just as awesome…

We all know J.D. Robb, heaven knows the bookshops around these parts have many of her titles always displayed on the top shelf, which obviously means that the books sell. There’s a reason for that. As with Nora Roberts (J.D. Robb is her pseudonym), every story is pleasantly different, but the author’s voice stays the same. In other words, readers will know what to expect, but still be pleasantly surprised when things don’t turn out like they wanted it to. Calculated in Death is a fun read and definitely not one to overlook if this is your type of genre.

If you haven’t figured it out yet, I enjoyed Calculated in Death and I think you guys will too.
