You Can Play Football by Nick Fauchald is a GREAT children's book. The book begins with a short paragraph defining the game in kid-friendly terms. Each page thereafter takes the reader through every phase of the game including warming up, coin tosses, referee job descriptions, offense, defense, and yardage. The book is clear and concise and in my opinion, should be read to every Kindergarten class on the first day of school. Football is such a popular sport among many students, and often due to age and immaturity, arguments and bullying can take place from the game being played unfairly. There are also little boxes with "facts" about the game and the rules of the game on the side of each page, that coincide with the "story" that depicts an actual game being played. The font is easy to read and the illustrations are good. I read this to my K boys and they absolutely loved it. We did a picture walk to begin and they could hardly contain themselves! They were so excited to about this book and could connect so easily with the text. I had about 5 students request to read this book independently during our Language Arts block where the boys take place in literacy activities, including "Read to Self". Even my kindergarten readers could read and comprehend the book accurately, mainly due to the vast connections and background knowledge they had on the topic. I highly recommend this book. ( ) I really appreciate the effort Nick Fauchald puts in helping readers explain the game of football. Like his baseball book, Fauchald gives us every detail needed to fully understand the game. I feel like so many details were provided, that I would be comfortable going out and playing a real game. If readers did not already know, they now know all the rules and how to win. The story ends with us not knowing who wins, which I admire about this author. Illustrator Bill Dickson also had his hand in making this story a success. The characters playing the game are both males and females. Today, it is rare to find women playing tackle football. Including the image of little girls playing this sport will make girls who are interested in it feel inspired to continue. Overall, I am happy to have come across a book that will interest children of both genders. Details: This book was written to interest children in grades K-3 and is on a 3.5 reading level. 2 children's football teams, the Bears and Colts play a friendly game of football. The book gives explanations about how to play football. The book also allows young children to learn about the different positions in football, fun facts, and includes a glossary of several football terms. This would be great to read to children whom are just learning to play football. näyttää 4/4 ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
