"Quinn Lennox is searching for a missing friend when she stumbles into a dark otherworld that only she can see-and finds herself at the mercy of Arturo Mazza, a dangerously handsome vampire whose wicked kiss will save her, enslave her, bewitch her, and betray her. What Arturo can't do is forget about her-any more than Quinn can control her own feelings for him. Neither one can let desire get in the way of their mission-his to save his people, hers to save herself. But there is no escape from desire in a city built for seduction, where passion flows hot and blood-red"--P. [4] of cover.… (lisätietoja)

Borderline romance novel but decent story line. ( )

This ones a blend of Paranormal romance/urban fantasy. It's too dark and gritty to be paranormal romance and missing some of the staples of that genre; on the other hand it is too focused on romantic interactions and the traditional romance tells to be considered pure Urban Fantasy. The world is truly dark in Vamp City- many of the torture scenes are hard to stomach and it's pretty explicit, brutal. The heroine is extremely likeable as she loves her brother, friends, and is compassionate but not filled with stupid moves. She uses her head, her heart, and is trying to figure out this bizarre magic she has. Arturo held surprises for me a few times - he's passionately handsome and wickedly sensual, and just when you think he's had a sweet change of heart, he reveals a hidden layer of deceit. I have to say that if I were in the heroines situation, if my brother had been killed, I would make it a point to do all in my power not to save that awful city. The ending wasn't a huge cliffhanger so I can forgive that, but it definitely held a thread of a surprise where you really want to read the next book to see what happens next! ( )

OMG. This book wins the award for the most loathsome characters I have read. The H/h rubbed me the wrong way so freaking bad that I was screaming at them like I was at some bad horror movie. Ugh. But - I did listen to the audiobook in its entirety so that automatically gets a 2 star rating from me - because my OCD kept me reading/listening.

Let's start with the hero, Arturo. No wait, he is not a hero. He is not even an anti-hero. He is a villain cast in the role of the leading male character. I love dark and broody vamps, but he is the biggest douche canoe that I have ever read. Seriously, he was just horrible. He betrayed the heroine at every turn, and I don't think he told her the truth EVER. I don't think I have ever yelled LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE at a character before, but I did it several times in this book! He has absolutely no redeeming qualities. Not freaking one. The best thing that can be said about him is that he doesn't torture his slaves. Seriously. Gah!

Now onto our heroine. Though in all fairness, she cannot be called a heroine either. She sure didn't save anyone. Oh wait, she maybe did. But she didn't do it on her own. She was a total weakling when we needed a kickass heroine! Instead, she was always getting her ass kicked or getting caught and imprisoned and/or tortured. Seriously, she has this plan to go back and save the day and she gets caught like right away and thrown in a slave auction. And she continues to have these tender type lustful feelings toward Arturo (whom she can only call Master) no matter how many times he betrays or lies to her. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS CHICK? I just wanna shake her until her teeth rattle.

So then I thought like, well, the last 5% of this book isn't so bad. Things might be looking up... but then BAM, THAT ENDING!!!! WTF is that? I wanted to reach through my phone into the audiobook and jerk up Arturo and stomp him into dust. I messaged Deanna yelling about how much I hate him, I hate him, I hate him!

Let me apologize for the most use of the word "Seriously" ever in a review... but SERIOUSLY! These characters made me THAT mad. You know, I think the author must have written them to be hated. Because the writing wasn't bad. The story was paced well and the concept was interesting... and it certainly evoked strong feelings of hate and exasperation. So what am I doing now? Grabbing the second audiobook so I can find out how much worse the characters are going to be in the next installment.

2 stars / 2 flames. ( )

I'm sorry, peeps, but I could see no redeeming properties in this book. In fact, it was such a trainwreck, I felt compelled to finish reading it despite being tempted to just DNF the whole thing.

The major downfall of A Blood Seduction lies in its characters. Quinn and Arturo do not know what the hell they're doing or feeling. You know WHY you would have trouble describing their characters? Because they blend in and accommodate whatever author decides to do next in the plot. They do not have distinctive personalities; their thoughts and feelings jump like yo-yos and do not reflect any sort of growth.

It was tiring and extremely frustrating. Quinn also manages to exhibit TSTL traits I so dislike in a heroine. Example: she just managed to escape the vampire city, and what does she do next? Jumps right back with a harebrained scheme of saving her brother without any sort of preparation or equipment. Or course she gets caught and abused again. *facepalm*.

The world-building is wobbly and more or less okay, but it doesn't go into any depth. It's the characters which totally ruin this book, in my opinion. I wish the author took some points from Joss Whedon and created this heady torturous mix of charming evil vampire turning good because of love... but it wasn't meant to be.

I also wish the authors in general would incorporate more popular mass culture into their books. It's always like their characters never watched Buffy or Supernatural and never know what to do when confronted with paranormal, while really the opposite would be a much more fascinating point to deliver.

Not recommended. ( )

I'm not really happy with this book. I'm really surprised in a way that people liked it. It was all I could do to finish it. This is a very dark book. I don't think the series will get any lighter either. This not a paranormal romance novel. I'm really glad that I didn't pay for this one either. I got it free from Amazon several months back.

Stop reading now if you don't want it spoiled. What I liked: the world building. The author brought Vamp City to life. I liked the idea of it until all the bad stuff happened. The author even had me liking a couple of vampires like Bram and Kassius but they are still not good vamps. What I disliked: all of it! I don't like books where the humans have no choice but to be slaves in the vampire world. I didn't understand how Quinn could even like Arturo. He lied and lied and lied. Then there is the torture of the humans by the vampires. I don't care if they can take away their memories. Torture is still torture. The vamps beat, raped, whipped, etc. their human slaves. Who can condone that?! Some of the torture scenes were really graphic. Others weren't that graphic but they gave enough that they are very memorable.

If you want a happy ending, don't look to this book. It wasn't a bad ending. It did appear as if Quinn saved her brother, Zack, but you're not sure what Arturo was hiding about Zack. They both were able to leave V.C.

Only one person do I really wonder what happened to. That is the human, Marcus. Did he find his wife and child still waiting for him? Was he able to be with them again?

After all that nastiness, I need a happy ending even if it's make believe. Too much negativity in this book. Read at your own risk. ( )
