NCLA Review: This Christian romantic comedy is based on the best-selling novel MIDWAY TO HEAVEN by Dean Hughes. It is not necessary to read the book to enjoy the touching story. Ned Stevens has been a widower for several years and is still grieving the loss of his wife, so much that he speaks to her "spirit" on a regular basis. He cringes at the thought of dating and uses the excuse he needs to look out for his daughter, Liz, who is in college. One day Liz brings home a serious boyfriend and Ned tries to sabotage the relationship. Liz and her boyfriend, David, teach Ned that with love there are always second chances. Liz diverts Ned to Carol, a neighbor, and a relationship begins. This film has a good mix of humorous and emotional elements that provides a solid entertainment experience. It is sure to lift your spirit with its lighthearted tale of letting go and opening your heart to the idea of making a fresh start. The movie was shot in Utah and has beautiful scenery. The music is very well done too. The Dove Foundation awarded this film the Approved Seal for ages 12 and over. Rating: 4 —PD ( )
