There was a part of me that felt like this was a watered down version of the Mortal Instruments series. The Nephilim must hunt for the missing mother. Haven't we been here before?

But this story is geared toward middle grade readers, and is geared more toward the Christian Fiction genre, so I tried to keep an open mind.

Keep in mind. if you aren't a fan of having bible verse thrust at you fairly frequently, this may be a bit offputting in this book. There is a lot of scripture quoting.

But on the other hand, there wa a lot of ignorance on the part of the characters considering their age and the fact that they grew up with a pastor for a father. Shouldn't they have had a firmer grasp on the scripture associated with what was going on here?

I did enjoy the book, and read through it fairly quickly, but I am really just torn about it. I am going to read on through the series to see if it redeems itself any. ( )

First, I want to admit, I finished reading this book months ago, & never wrote the review for it. Mainly because I received the book for free to review through booksneeze, & I wasn't sure just how much I liked it, or if I even liked it enough to review it, so I sat on it to think about it - and then forgot about it ;/.

Part of the reason why I struggled how to review the book was because I would have absolutely LOVED & ADORED this book as a kid/young adult - I was a regular Sunday School & church goer, & there really wasn't any Christian fiction out there besides the Lion the Witch & the Wardrobe, & that wasn't really Christian fiction, just written by a Christian author. I would have adored reading a book like this, & I could see myself really getting into it.

But as an adult, I was bored throughout most of the story, & just felt like so much of the plot was way too awfully convenient, and boy oh boy, guess what, there's a happy ending! Wow, I'm so surprised (insert sarcasm here). The book, however, was very well written & I did like some of the characters, though ironically not so much the main characters as the secondary characters. I also think that this is a very unique storyline, & for these reasons I am giving the book 3 stars. ( )

For a children's book this is pretty good. I'm sure a young boy will enjoy the fighting and the thought of warrior angels. It's geared towards the more religious reader, in my opinion. ( )

Spirit Fighter
Summary: Jonah Stone is just an ordinary kid who goes to an ordinary school, has ordinary parents, and does ordinary stuff. At basketball tryouts, Jonah failed. He didn’t make the team, and made a big fool out of himself. After the tryouts, Jonah was feeling angry, sad, and upset. While he was walking through a field, he saw a soccer ball and decided to take some anger out on it. However when he kicked it he went flying further than he could see. Of course, he thought it was kind of strange, but he just kept on walking home. When he got home though, he saw something, or rather someone up in a tree in his backyard. So he went to see who it was and when he got close enough to see the strange figure he realized that it was not a person, it was an angel. The angel was surprised that Jonah could see him and started asking Jonah some questions. After they got talking Jonah found out that he was a quarterling (one quarter angel). Jonah then went and asked his parents and they confirmed it, he was one-quarter angel. He also found out that his mom was half angel. After getting over the shock, he discovered that he had some special abilities. For one he had super speed, strength, and he could conjure a bow with flaming arrows from mid air. Also his sister Eliza discovered that she could create a magical shield out of nowhere. While they were busy training with their new powers their mother was kidnapped by fallen angles and taken to a secret location along with all of the other half-angels. Now it is up to Jonah and Eliza to save their mom and all of the others (half-angles).

Review: I thought Spirit Fighter was a great book. When I write down what it is about it sounds kind of stupid but in reality is a very good book. I really like how the book is a Christian based book and it teaches about the bible while still being full of action and adventure. Also this book really kept me wanting to read until the very end. I would recommend this book to anybody who likes Christian based books, fantasy books, and action/adventure books. Overall this was a great book and it was a very fun read. ( )

Book 1 of a Great Series for Teens and Pre-Teens

This book begins with a bang and races from there. I actually got the third book first, but quickly realized that I needed to read books one and two to complete the story. The children learn that they are special kids destined to fight in the spiritual warfare battle of good against evil. What child (or any age for that matter) can resist that! The kids learn to put on their armor when they are called on to go into battle by going to school with others who also have special gifts. The book uses versus from the Bible to back up the story. This should be in every library that has a Harry Potter book, and gifted to every child that loves to read. I would much rather see kids consuming this than Harry Potter. I highly recommend this series for lovers of action and supernatural forces. ( )
