I first read this book quite a long time ago in German, so I understand that my review may be a bit biased, considering that translations generally have lower quality writing. However, even disregarding the writing, which was fine, while a bit underdeveloped both in vocabulary and in style, the book just wasn't for me. I don't normally read this genre(I must admit I'm more of a sci-fi/fantasy junkie), so if you don't enjoy this type of books, I will tell you now: it is not worth plunging out of your comfort zone. The underlying message came across, but in an unnatural manner, like serving a wonderful salad in a raclette dish. On the other hand, if you have read similar books before and found them pleasing, you might find this one, too, laudable. Overall, I can only say: It wasn't for me. ( ![]() Great book... Good for middleschoolers, and adults too ;-) Loved it! Heart-warming story of courage, kindness and friendship. I cried three times. Recommended for all. Brilliantly written. The tone of all the characters seemed just right and the whole middle school atmosphere really resonated with me. I actually found it quite hard to read at times because it brought back memories of my own suckish middle school days. I liked how Jack's character developed especially. I also thought it worked really well hearing the story from different character's perspectives. I had a hard time getting into this story, but I liked it by the end.
