( ) A simple but thorough introduction to the myth of Hades and Persephone. This version's Persephone can be a little shrill at times, but I appreciate that she has opinions and thoughts of her own. An author's note, profiles on the relevant gods and goddesses, footnotes, discussion questions, and a bibliography/recommended reading make this an excellent jumping-off point for further exploration into Greek mythology and history. Ah yes, let’s name the comic Hades and then have the story focus on Persephone and Demeter. Here I was hoping to get a story focused on the God of the Underworld himself but nope. Also the author decided to go with the kidnapping version of this tale, which has never been one I liked, so ehh. The art was, not very pleasing to look at, I kept getting wanna be superhero vibes from the design choice of Hermès and that was frustrating. Overall it just wasn’t anything exciting or captivating. This is an excellent retelling of the abduction of Persephone. Deeply grounded in their primary sources, the characters also feel very modern and accessible. I'm especially impressed that Mr. O'Connor has let Persephone's voice come through while still telling the traditional story. The story and the art convey the story vividly, without being too graphic for a young audience (or for the adults who are probably more worried about graphic depictions than they really need to be {and by 'adults' here, I really mean 'me'}). I enjoyed reading this as much as my 9 year old nephew enjoyed it - high praise, right there :) ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
