Riley Williams can suddenly see ghosts after being in a car crash that took her mother. Riley blames herself for her mother's death and is having a difficult time dealing, she cuts herself to find release from her guilt and sadness.

Riley's father moved her and her brother halfway around the world at the suggestion of her therapist that a new scenery might help with her depression and delusions that she can see ghosts. Riley is not a willing medium, she doesn't want to be bothered by annoying spirits. Who would? But when she and her family moved into a very old Scottish Inn, she see's Ian MacKinnon, she's tries to avert her eyes not wanting him to see that she's aware of his presence. Ian saw Riley cutting herself and with concern in his eyes and voice, and his drop dead gorgeous look, pun intended, Riley's resolve to avoid him falters. Riley is inexplicable drawn to Ian, she cannot get enough of his piercing blue eyes, old world charm, and dashing good looks.

Soon Riley finds out that Ian's spirit was cursed to roam the earth for eternity. And even though she would lose him she has to help him move on. Although that means she would have to go up against a scorned powerful spirit who practices dark magic and would be a danger to Riley and her family.

This was a good story, I think the author tackled a very serious topic. She did a very good job with the heroines depression and her cutting. She took it seriously and didn't just brush over it. The teenagers came across as real too, with their drinking, pot use and their language, seems right on par. Don't know anything about the Scottish teen brogue but I guess everything else sounds typical. There wasn't a whole lot of build up to Riley's ultimate showdown with Laria, the dark spirit that cursed Ian. Even their showdown was over pretty quickly. I gathered from the ending that this was just a preview of what's to come for Riley, we're just seeing the beginning of her power and her calling to help spirits cross over. ( )

The Deepest Cut is about a girl names Riley Williams, who has been able to see ghosts ever since she was in a terrible car accident that killed her mom. Riley, her brother Shane and her father move to Scotland to start a new life. They move into an old creepy inn and there Riley meets him- Ian Mackinnon. Ian is a ghost who has been cursed for 200 years by v=never being able to cross over to the better world where the rest of his family is. The Mackinnon's are very wealthy and were royalty when Ian was still alive. They live in the castle across from the inn. Ian tells Riley that he was cursed by his servant that got jealous because she was in Ian but he was in love with someone else. Riley knowing that she tries to find a way to help Ian cross over. But she has fallen in love with Ian. Later in she meets Laria the servant that killed Ian. Laria finds out
Riley is trying to help Ian cross over and haunts Riley. Every where that Riley goes with Shane or some of Riley's friends like Megan, Laria goes there and tries messing with her. She goes uo behind her brother Shane and starts choking him but Shane doesn't know that. Even when Riley is in her own house Laria attacks her, Ian always comes to Riley's rescue. Laria threatens Riley that if she doesn't leave Ian alone then she will kill everybody she loves. Riley sneaks into the castle with Ian to try and find a journal that might help them cross Ian over. The journal turns out to be Larias old journal with a bunch of entries that she made when she was living. In the back of the book Riley finds the curse that Laria put on Ian and uses the ingredients that she finds to reverse the curse on Ian to cross him over. When Riley does the curse Laria comes to attack them. But Laria is a little to late and the curse works. Larias father comes and takes her away and Ian fades into the other world. When Riley goes back to school with her brother Shane everything starts going well. She meets Kade Mackinnon a descendent of Ian. He drives her come and shes is just thinking about how lucky she is to have had Ian. But Mostly to have Laria gone... but is Laria really gone forever?

When I first started reading The Deepest Cut i didnt think it would be about ghosts and honestly not that good of a book. But when i started reading it I couldnt stop. Riley interested me alot because i have always been interested in stories like this. I really liked Riley and Ian's relationship it made the book a lot sweeter aside fromt he fact that a killer ghost was haunting Riley. I thought it was amazing how brave Riley was whenever she encountered Laria. Even when Laria slammed her up against the wall and ceiling. I definitely loved and recommending this book. Raise your hand if you have a thing for a hot guy with a scottish accent? *Raises both hands HIGH*
If someone had told me earlier that the guys is scottish, I would read this book first, no questions ask.

As you can tell, I loved the plot. A girl moving to anew town, meeting a hottie and getting quickly subdued to solving a life long mystery. I admired this plot. It's paced well plus it brings some good back history to the characters. With each past of theirs revealed, it's a onion pulling back the layers one by one till you've seen it all. The plot places the reader in a world of mystery and murder. You just have to fine the murder first before they get you!

There is an enduring friendship turned love. I really liked this part. I didn't think it happen but it did. It's once love that started but the reader knew it just couldn't happen and that's what sucks! I wanted it to work soooo bad! They be perfect for each other. Nevertheless, those few precious moments they had in loving each other the only way that they can, I emerged myself more into it knowing that it be over soon.

The ending is touching. It's is bittersweet, yet you know it's not the end, it's only the beginning. I can't wait to read the rest of the books.

The Deepest Cut, cuts the reader deep in their heart. It's exciting to see the plot race forward once you are in the characters shoes. The thrilling events with each chapter keep the reader locked in their seat, eyes never straying off the page. Utterly amazing, The Deepest Cut is a rush! ( )

I was honored when Julia Templeton asked me to review The Deepest Cut, it combines the factors of contemp that I love, the tough issues (Riley's mom dying and her guilt at being in the car with her, and the cutting) right with the paranormal aspects that I love. The paranormal, the ghosts one woven into a love story and the other downright evil and creepy are very well written.
I flew through this book. The characters grabbed and held my interest, the plot is fast moving always having me wonder what would happen next while still processing what just happened, and the emotions are so well written.
Riley is easy to relate to, and her pain jumps off the page. I also really admire her love for her dad and her brother. Her brother Shane is balanced between a good friend and awesome brother with just enough annoying to make it believable.
Ian really is swoon worthy and I love how dogged he was at first with her to get and keep her attention. He got mine too. The backstory with Laria is good, and I was always wondering what it was just below the surface and what it would finally take to deal with her.
And I totally wasn't expecting the ending, I can't wait to get my hands on the next one to find out how this all ties together and what happens with Riley.
