I had a hard time following the plot line as I found it skipped around a bit, scattered from one topic to another and one character to another. I couldn't pin down what kind of genre this book was meant to be. I was just plain confused. ( )Tämä arvostelu kirjoitettiin LibraryThingin Varhaisia arvostelijoita varten. I did not enjoy this book at all. Sorry! Tämä arvostelu kirjoitettiin LibraryThingin Varhaisia arvostelijoita varten. I like the concept of an ongoing story and have often though of doing something of this nature myself. However I did find the story a bit hard to read. Was not able to tell where character actions and thought were separated from narration and other character information. Tämä arvostelu kirjoitettiin LibraryThingin Varhaisia arvostelijoita varten. Dire. Badly written tripe. Truly awful. Just about the only saving grace is that the words were spelled correctly, and a very very brief moment of plot construction near the end where the totally predictable verged every so slightly off course with the introduction of a new character. Probably not helped by being a shrt story set in a wider universe, but I really have no desire at all to seek out any of the other stories.A cadet is watching the local aliens terraform a world by building a star in its core! What why? how? Has the auhto no idea about the physics in a star? This apparently routine opperation is taken exception to by a local deity of some unexplained kind, for reasons that aren't explained. I neither know nor cared why, but was glad it happened late on in the book as it meant I was close to the end. The writing is very bad. Appaling sentance construction leaves the reader guessing as to what was meant a lot of the time. Fortunatly it is mostly exposition and can be readily skipped. Even so 73 pages seemed to last forever. Rare occurances of actual dialogue between characters was stilted, and when in just about the only fit of passion one of them swore the offending characters were blanked out, as if somehow seeing the word hell in print could lead to the same "mysterious" entity that appears at the end attacking either thereader or the author. No it doesn't make any sense. The only reason why I read this in the first place was because the back cover blurb in the ER program amde it sound enticing. Either Sims should stay as coverwriter, or else whoever he's hired should go and work for someone better. Do Not Read. Tämä arvostelu kirjoitettiin LibraryThingin Varhaisia arvostelijoita varten. The information about this book on the Early Reviewers list was that it was a tragedy, so I wasn't surprised by how it went. I normally like happy endings but I thought I'd give this a go as it looked like it was going to explore some interesting areas. The story is about humans and aliens working on a terraforming project. The plot builds and it looks like it's building up to something. Then some fantasy-type elements come in without any real back story and the plot starts getting very strange. The writing was good, it was just the plot that went astray. It looked like there were some interesting themes, but they didn't get explored enough before that tragic ending. The story wasn't that long as well. There was a soundtrack that went along with it. Listening to it was a novel experience and helped add atmosphere. ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
