Emerging Legacy är en prequel till Wolverine’s Daughter och det är egentligen inte en bok utan en novell. Stämningen är mer traditionell fantasy än boken som hade en hel del western-smak. Däremot känns handlingen lite låst eftersom händelserna som startade boken inte inträffat ännu.
Eftersom det är en novell är det inte mycket att orda om handlingen utan att avslöja för mycket men novellen är värd en läsning även om det inte är något spektakulärt. ( )

Emerging Legacy is a prequel to the novel ‘Wolverine’s Daughter’. This short story centers on Kelyn (the eponymous Wolverine’s Daughter) and her companions who are captured by slavers. Can Kelyn, self-described as clumsy, free herself and her friends without (or despite) tripping over her own feet? Although this is quite a short story, the author does an excellent job both of characterization and plot. Often short stories set in new worlds can be too heavy on exposition or include so little as to leave the reader entirely at sea. Doranna Durgin hits the sweet spot in between – enough description to settle the world in my imagination but not so much as to detract from the action. Kelyn’s voice also comes across clearly. This short story leaves me wanting to know more and had me heading to Amazon to pick up the novel it precedes. ( )

I have not read Wolverin's Daughter but now will definitely look for it. The story was very simple but well written. It ended just as it was getting really interesting. I want to know what happens next. ( )

This is a short story prequel to Wolverine's Daughter. Another enjoyable story by Doranna Durgin. Kelyn feels she is the clumsy one in her hunting pack, but she finds the skill and courage to save her companions when they are attacked by slavers.

This is a short story prequel to a novel I have not read. Though a stand alone story in terms of action, the reader is given very few clues about the genre, time, place, or society. In their absence, I assumed the over-used pseudo-medieval other world setting common to much fantasy (which I assume this is).

The story is a simple but well-told good guys versus bad guys plot, without any moral complexities, and a tragic note at the beginning is introduced and then abandoned. I'm sufficiently intrigued to seek out the novel, and hopeful that the longer work provides more character and story depth, in addition to strong narrative skills. ( )
