( ![]() This book is about a fish with beautiful scales in the beginning he does not want to share any of his scales with the other fish who admire him. The fish finds himself in a lonely and confused place even though he is beautiful he is missing something. The fish then discovers he can other fish happy by sharing his beautiful scales. In the end he only has one beautiful scale remaining, but he is surrounded by friends and now they all share the beauty. This book is a great lesson for kids in teaching them about friendship and sharing. It shows them that even when it looks like you have everything it can still be lonely. This book is geared towards younger children. This book highlights a fish with special sparkly gills. The fish is very proud of its unique gills until the other fish begin making fun of the special gills. This book teaches about how friends can lift others up and bring out their special qualities. I would use this book to teach about friendship and sharing with others. It can also be used to show how to always be kind. Lovely art. However, anything with a message of, "If beautiful, cut off parts of yourself and give 'em away to others," Is, at a minimum, creepy. I know there's a whole sharing = friends undertone, but... I have opinions. Telling folks they can't win unless they diminish themselves... that's not cool. Even when it's probably not the intent. And yeah, this could easily have gone the route of, "Being nice and kind to folks is a decent way to make friends," Instead. This book teaches that vanity and pride are not good characteristics to have. While I do like the idea of friendship and giving this book presents, I have a hard time loving it because I feel like the other fish shouldn't have made rainbow fish changed who he was by giving away his scales. Rather they should have appreciated and accepted him for how he was. I do understand however that rainbow fish needed to be humbled and show kindness to the other fish though. Overall, I still love this book from my childhood and believe this would be a great read for primary age children.
Summary: The Rainbow fish is a book about a very beautiful and shimmering fish who finds happiness by sharing his scales with the other fish. Personal Reaction: This book is a very good book. Its morals are genuine and it not only teaches kindness but also acceptance. It also teaches how to value being yourself. I really liked this book and the pictures. It is a easy to read picture book. Classroom Extension: It would be fun to have children make their own storybook telling/showing how they can be kind to someone. Kuuluu näihin sarjoihinRainbow Fish (1) Sisältyy tähän:
