Fantasy. Fiction. Literature. Forty years after the Oblivion crisis, the empire of Tamriel is threatened by a mysterious floating city, Umbriel, whose shadow spawns a terrifying undead army. Reeling from a devastating discovery, Prince Attrebus continues on his seemingly doomed quest to obtain a magic sword that holds the key to destroying the deadly invaders. Meanwhile, in the Imperial City, the spy Colin finds evidence of betrayal at the heart of the empire-if his own heart doesn't betray him first. And Annaig, trapped in Umbriel itself, has become a slave to its dark lord and his insatiable hunger for souls. How can these three unlikely heroes save Tamriel when they cannot even save themselves?… (lisätietoja)

To anyone who likes the Fantasy genre, I totally recommend this book. I enjoyed it the whole way through.

From what I've been able to gather from other people's comments and reviews, this book is based on some sort of gaming world (which I love 1st person RPGs, but have no idea what this is, or even what platform it plays on) and there was at least one book before this that I have not read. This explains why some of the races were not really explained or fully introduced, so I never really got a good picture of them. Still, it worked for me as a stand alone. I really enjoyed it!

Mine was a proof copy, says on the front that they go on sale in stores September 27th! Enjoy!

(Edit: I have since tried to play Oblivion and hated it. Also, it seems the lovers of these games hate the books. Ha! I was better off having no idea what I was reading, eh?) ( )

Lord of Souls is the second elder scrolls novel, second in that it comes after the first, but the reality is it's not really a second book per se. There's no background as to what happened in the first installment so if you are to start here with Lord of Souls you're going to feel like you just opened a book and started in the middle - which is precisely what you will have done. These two books should have really been just a single 660 page volume yet it seems like the publisher saw dollar signs in dividing it up into two separate parts. I'd be annoyed if I'd purchased it as a book thankfully I got them both effectively free with a second hand copy of Skyrim Deluxe.

The story itself here seems a bit more purposeful and enjoyable than in the Infernal City which seems a bit, almost aimless. Here at least everyone has specific goals and objectives to which they are working, although to be fair I did read the first installment almost seven years ago so my memory of it may not be entirely accurate.

All in all, I'd say this book is average, it's an okay game world extension but it's nowhere near on the level that Bioshock: Rapture was on which portrayed a vivid and detailed world that was enthralling. This is just merely a time passer that's kind of interesting due to its source material. ( )

I have played many of the Elder Scrolls games and enjoy the world of Tamriel and its inhabitants. I found this book to be a good addition to the lore behind the Elder Scrolls series.

In this book I most enjoyed the parts that took place in Umbriel, the world building in there was interesting and the characters played well together. The concept of cooking using otherworldly ingredients and emotions as spice was really neat!

I found myself less interested in the other characters, and thought that the part with the female orc who was guarding the mage felt somewhat tacked on.

I did not realize that this book was a follow up to another, I will have to go back and read it when I have time. ( )

While I'll admit this was an interesting read, I had some trouble following the story and characters, because it's pretty clearly a later part in an ongoing series. The writer doesn't do much introduction of the characters or their situations because it's expected that the reader has read other books, and already knows what's going on to some extent. Beyond that, it makes for an excellent fantasy romp. ( )

Do you want to know how rescue to a city from a hellish place for the second time in a 100 years? The book, Lord of Souls, is a fantasy book based on the game series Elder Scrolls, a fantasy western RPG. In this second book of the Elder Scrolls novel series, the main heroes of the series save the imperial city from oblivion, A hellish place that sent a flying city that attacked Cyrodiil. As a book it felt alright but as a fan of the Elder Scrolls games I didn't like it that much. I love all of the rich story and lore of the Elder Scrolls, to where I found I was enriched again when reading this amazing book.
It has been forty years since the last crisis hit Cyrodiil and the daedra are back for vengeance. Will the heroes beat the fiendish forces in this book?
When reading I did not see any place from the game in the book besides the Imperial city you see on the cover picture. As well I never remember seeing of the places in the game the book talks about. I have been playing the Elder Scrolls games since the 2006 hit game Oblivion came out. The game took place where this game did so I had some places in my mind. I had a monumental standards for this book. When reading it felt nice seeing the references in the book however in the games it never said anything about this event, but the book read great by itself. But it felt unusual when I would look at it as a game and felt out of place. Overall I felt left out of a lot of lore on the book and was disappointed, but I liked the lord of souls book.
All in all I did enjoy the book greatly even though it wasn't connected that much to the games besides a few place names. I would recommend this book to people who enjoyed the first book in the series and fans of a medieval fantasy genre.
