The book was okay typical lets love each other today, hate each other tomorrow, and love each other the next. I think that it started strong and ended strong but fizzled somewhere in the middle. The author however can write her arse off so four stars for her. Now Shannon is ready to move on, leave Rafe and strike out on her own. Rafe, however, is totally in love with her, and has only one last mission to make her face her true feelings. Rafe is totally sweet and hot, protective towards Shannon, and their affection is the best part if this novella. Too often, 'chemistry' acts as a poor substitute for a plot where the characters fall in love, and to me that period of discovery and growing closeness is the best part of a romance. This one starts as Shannon is about to end their work partnership and move away, start on her own, so the two years of discovering each other is not there, but you can feel the affection and the openness that has resulted from it. Loved both Shannon and Rafe! Oh, and liked the goo monster too!!! Special mention because as a PNR hero, Rafe is unusual. I would love more of him! An excellent short story about two broken people falling in love. So what if one’s a vampire and the other has been traumatized by one? I love great characters who can overcome difficulties to find their HEA and still manage to work together to do their jobs. I'm not saying it's a bad read but it's not a memorable one (i.e. I read this 2 days ago and forgot that I had and just started reading it again. After 15 pages I realised I'd already done so) (
