This third volume in the Psalm 23 Mysteries series finds Jeremiah and Cindy matching wits with an unscrupulous land developer. Rabbi Jeremiah Silverman is rear-ended just by the church. His car has flipped over from the impact. He breaks a window to exit the car and is found by Cindy Preston, church secretary, a few minutes later.

Cindy immediately calls Detective Mark Walters to notify him of the accident and that Jeremiah told her that the driver of the other car was dead when the accident happened. Cindy and Jeremiah know Detective Walters because they have been involved with the detective in solving a couple of prior murders. And now, Cindy is determined to solve this mystery.

An exciting read with lots of action and adventure. Great for young adults as well as any of us older kids. The suspense is well-written and plotted. Very enjoyable, I am looking forward to reading others in this series or by this author.

I recommend you read this series in order. ( )

This is a really light series, but entertaining. Some awkwardness in the writing style (sometimes I feel like Jeremiah talks like Commander Data from Star Trek- very formal all the time), but this one in particular held my attention with what happened at the camp and how Jeremiah handled it. Interested to see where she goes with the characters in the next one. ( )

The story involves the neighborhood Rabbi joining the Good Shepard church youth retreat as a counselor. Rabbi Jeremiah is reluctant to go because he believes it will stir up old wounds from his days in the Israeli Army. The main character, however, is Cindy, a secretary at the Good Shepard Church who does not go on the trip.

There were many, many grammar mistakes on the Nook version that were distracting. I also could not understand why the main character was not prominent to the story. Her potential love interest, Rabbi Jeremiah, leads all the action. With Lie Down being only the 3rd installment of the series, I have to wonder why the author changed the formula that was so successful for the first 2 books in the series. Usually this is a sign that the author is bored with the series.

That said, I enjoyed the book immensely. It was a relaxing read after a nerve wracking day at the office. The series is a cozy mystery series but Lie Down was more a suspense novel than a cozy and suspense readers may want to take a look at this one. ( )

Third in the 23rd Psalms series about a rabbi and a Protestant church secretary who solve murders, this one was a huge departure from the cozy genre represented by the earlier books in the series. The body count for this one could rival some action/adventure flicks! And, the deaths were very definitely NOT "off-screen" as it were. There was also some character development that seemed to come out of left field. I expected Jeremiah to be ruthless (there are hints about prior military service in Israel in earlier books), but I didn't expect Cindy to be so blood-thirsty.

There's still lot to learn about these characters, and while this was not my favorite of the series, I am looking forward to the next installment. ( )

My Review: Originally Published in Suspense MagazineMeet Jeremiah and Cindy: Jeremiah is a rabbi and Cindy a church secretary. People are dying around them and it seems to be linked to a developer who wants to buy Green Pastures Campground. They join forces to try to get to the bottom of things before more people are killed.Reading this book gave me a look at the different ways people handle relationships and danger. It shows the reader that it is possible to pull strength out from down deep inside yourself. You are stronger then you think you are.I liked the characters. I enjoyed Cindy's ‘nothing will stop me’ attitude even if at times I felt she was not thinking things through. Trying to take on people she suspects are part of these crimes by playing darts with them in a bar? Not so smart in my opinion. Jeremiah agreed to take some children camping at Green Pastures only to have trouble find them. A washed out bridge, a bombing in their cabin just to name a few. He handled things much better than I would have.“Lie Down in Green Pastures” is the third book in the Psalm 23 Mysteries and the first one I have read. I felt like I was missing key information about Cindy and Jeremiah. For me it made the book just a bit more confusing to follow and not one I would call a stand-alone read.Overall, it's a nice cozy mystery that can be read on a rainy weekend. I recommend reading the books in order. ( )
