Her worst fears come true... After her father's death, Elizabeth Bennet goes to work as a governess. Little does she know the Willstones are social acquaintances of the Bingleys and the Darcys, and Elizabeth finds herself once again drawn into Mr. Darcy's orbit. To make matters worse, Mrs. Willstone's sister sets her sights on Mr. Darcy. With Elizabeth's social status even lower than it was before, she knows she must abandon allhope of Darcy renewing his proposals, even as she begins to see him in a completely different light... Praise for Darcy's Voyage "Refreshing... a tale of romance, intrigue, and adventure...that made me sigh in all the right places and laugh out loud at the most surprising moments." --Austenprose… (lisätietoja)

It is nearly a year since Mr. Bennet's death and Elizabeth is working as a governess to the Willstone's daughter. But the Willstones are acquaintances of the Bingleys and she hears rumours of an understanding between Miss Darcy and Bingley. What are the reasons for the Willstones to be invited to Pemberley. Is it just that he can get to known Miss Matthews, Miss Willstone's sister better?
An enjoyable, well-written story which probably deserves a 3.5 rating ( )

I’m such a sucker for these kinds of books featuring Pride and Prejudice. There are so many different types of retellings and most of them are good. This one has its moments and it was enjoyable to read.

So in this twist, our beloved Mr Bennet dies prematurely and Elizabeth becomes a governess. This was rather interesting, and it does suit Elizabeth rather well - although back then in the day it’s a drop in the society ladder and everyone she knows makes sure she knows it.

So she meets Rosalyn which I thought at first, was an ideal friend for our dear Lizzie. She’s a bit vapid and valley girl type of character. Especially when Mr Darcy is around (can’t blame her, we all love Mr Darcy) but it’s almost to the point where she’s annoying about it. It’s not until the latter half of the novel where Rosalyn does a complete 360 and she becomes a pretty awful person (including her mother).

The plot in this one tries to stay within the main one we’re all familiar with it just diverts the path a bit and comes back to full circle. Which is nice as it tries to stay true to the original story at the same time you just get a different “what if” scenario to enjoy reading. I’d have to say I enjoy reading Hamilton (another cousin of Darcy’s) playing along with Elizabeth. It was playful banter and he sounded like the type of rogue we all love to read and fall for (albeit, foolishly). It was a bit hard to get into at first but it’s worth going through to the end as once Rosalyn does her 360 turn, everything becomes much more interesting.

The only thing I did not enjoy reading is towards the end Darcy does something completely out of character and it just did not sit well with me. He’s not the type to be outspoken even when it comes to be madly in love. Don’t make him something he’s not. It nearly ruined the entire book as it was doing so well staying close to the true nature of the characters only to have him do something he wouldn’t EVER do (nor can you picture him doing so).

Also, the ending just dragged too much for me. We get it. We all know what’s going to happen. We all know what did happen. There’s no need for extra fodder in the last few chapters of the book. It could have just ended with the proposal or wedding and done. Perhaps the last few chapters could have been made into an entirely new idea for another book to be made. It was just so unnecessary.

Overall, it was a good read for those that love Pride and Prejudice “what if” scenarios and fans. I enjoyed it despite those changes in characters that nearly caused me to grind my teeth and yelling out certain expletives. ( )

Mr.Bennet has died and it has forced Jane and Elizabeth to take positions as governesses. But Elizabeth has taken the harder course while Jane is employed by the Gardiners their kind Uncle and Aunt. Elizabeth is working for strangers. I am not surprised that Lizzy took the harder job and let Jane have the easier one. This book has a much more sober air about it then Darcy's Voyage because of Mr.Bennet's death.

This is my second book of Kara Louise's and I wasn't disappointed.Kara Louise has a real talent with Jane Austen Fan Fiction. She keeps the characters true and comes up with great what if variations. Be it this isn't as unique an idea as Darcy's Voyage.

I really enjoyed the addition of Mr.Hamilton, Mr.Darcy's other cousin. He was such a fun character and kinda wish he would get his own book. Rosalyn as a character is an idiot and I find her very annoying. I liked her until she started making a fool of herself in front of Mr.Darcy. My opinions of the Willstones and Rosalyn changed a lot as I got to know them. I thought they weren't a bad sort. But their true colors started to show. They were the only ones being so unkind to the poor people who had to take refuge at Pemberley because of the flooding. I know they were of a lower class but everyone else was kind and didn't act like they were diseased only the Willstones and Rosalyn. Particularly as Rosalyn said her father married beneath him. You would think they would be more compassionate but I guess everyone shows their true colors eventually. Surprisingly I enjoyed the character of Emily(I'm not much of kid person). I found her intelligent and adorable.

This book was so sweet and romantic. This book is a clean romance but the spark between Elizabeth and Darcy is very hot. I love their chemistry with each other. There is no doubt that they are in love with each other. It was such a beautiful retelling and kept me captivated. The ending was Perfection and I highly recommend this to all P&P fans. ( )

What if Mr. Bennet tragically dies before Lizzy visits Pemberley? What if Jane goes off to live with the Gardiners in Cheap Side and Elizabeth became a governess? Would Elizabeth and Darcy still find their way back to each other after the disastrous proposal?

Elizabeth goes the work for the Willstones; unbeknownst to her they are acquaintances of the Bingley’s and Darcy’s. Mrs. Willstone’s sister Rosalyn befriends Elizabeth on her visit and learns of her previous contact with Mr. Darcy; she pushes Elizabeth for information in hopes of securing Darcy’s affection. When the family is invited to stay at Pemberely for a fortnight, Elizabeth is beside herself with worry. Does Darcy realize the invitation includes their governess?

I really enjoyed this version of the story! Yes, we all know how it is supposed to turn out but it is an entertaining, quick read. I enjoyed the characters being placed in new situations that, while different, did not stray too far from the original. I would recommend it as a fun read to any Jane Austen fan that is looking for a new spin on the classic. ( )

I didn't read this book when it was originally a self-published novel, and I'm glad I'm waited. Look at that gorgeous cover!

The is another one of those "what-if" style stories, where Mr. Bennet has passed away and the Bennet ladies are left to fend for themselves. Jane goes to live with her Aunt & Uncle Gardiner, while Mary, Kitty, Lydia & Mrs. Bennet move in with the Phillips' in Meryton. Elizabeth takes on the position of a Governess - meaning she is lower in rank now than when she was simply a Gentleman's Daughter.

Darcy is still infatuated with Elizabeth - so much so that he invites the family she is working for to Pemberley for a fortnight. The family thinks they've been invited because Mr. Darcy has taken an interest in their eligible sister, and the miscommunication and changes in Elizabeth's class are all obstacles she must overcome.. because she's realised just how much she feels for Mr. Darcy, as well.

A predictable story, but it certainly doesn't make it any less enjoyable. ( )
