![]() Best Urban Fantasy (459) Ei tämänhetkisiä Keskustelu-viestiketjuja tästä kirjasta. Still really into this series!!! While shit goes down in this and it's mostly about the characters trekking through the woods, it's still very interesting and we are slowly, slowly starting to figure out what's going on. Maya continues to be a cool protagonist, especially when Rafe isn't around. She once again faces up to some of her flaws and tries to work on them, though not always with great success. The plot is predictable at points, but not so much that it's annoying. Also Sam likes girls. Like I didn't figure that out. Now I just need Maya to figure out she likes girls too and then they can be together and be happy!! :D The Calling is the second book in the Darkness Rising series. This book was much better than the first, The Gathering. Had these two books been edited down and combined into one, I think it would have made a fantastic book. In this story, Maya, and her friends have survived the helicopter crash and are on the run from two different groups who are pursuing them. As they run, each starts to find out more and more about the way they are changing and how it happened. Maya and Daniel are most affected, but hints are given as to how the others might also be changing. This book was much more satisfying than the first, and I'm ready to finish the series by reading The Rising. My reviews and ratings were lost for this book, so it won't be as detailed as before. This book picks up right where book one ended. This book was better than the first one and had more action. I believe the action continues for the whole book and we learn many things about what's going on with the characters, especially Maya. It ends with you wanting to read more and wanting to see the how this is all going to come together in the third book. I remember trying to get the 3rd book as fast as I can after reading this. I wanted to see how it was going to end. I would recommend this series to everybody, the author has a way with building worlds and characters. ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu

‘It wasn’t a stretch to think that the people responsible for this - and for setting the fire that got us out of town - were the scientists my birth mother had escaped sixteen years ago.’ (page 34)
‘Someone had pulled Serena under the water and drowned her. Someone had pulled me under, then and now. Someone had pulled Nicole under, too.
Sam hadn’t liked Serena. She hadn’t liked Nicole. Apparently, she didn’t like me much either, no matter how hard she tried to pretend otherwise.
Who did Sam like? Daniel. Who had been pulled under the water? His girlfriend, his best friend, and a girl who wanted to be his next girlfriend.’ (page 65)
‘I looked down at my hand. It was … wrong. Misshapen. My fingers were thick, my nails almost like claws. There was hair on the back of my hand. Thick tawny hairs. As I stared at it, my hip started to throb again. ‘ (page 88)
‘She planned this. There’s no loss of cognitive function. She’s an intelligent young woman in the body of one of the world’s finest predators. This is what we’ve been working toward. This is everything we’ve dreamed.’ (page 231) (
