This is a 6 chapter book with extra sections for timeline and author notes, a total of 72 pages. This is an informational book and is under the category of CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.4.2, there is an obvious main topic that is supported with details about background and daily life and difficulties. This was an easy read, chapter book, I would recommend this book to a 4th grader or above. It is an easy to follow book but, there are a lot of details and difficulties( as in topics that require maturity and sympathy) within the book. The words in the book were bigger and had more space between them, making it an easier read for the visually impaired. The story was also told in a gentle way because it is geared towards young readers. I think that is important because not everyone at this age knows the specifics and struggles of having all these impairments. However, when the book starts talking about how she over came her impairments and became more independent, the tone of the book gets this influx, it sounds louder. I enjoy that because, yes a lot of the book talks about the hardships but it really empathized the motivation she had and the happiness she felt when she over came her obstacles. ( )

Helen Keller: A light for the blind, written by Kathleen V. Kudlinski, tells the incredible story of the life of Helen Keller. After suffering from a near fatal childhood illness, Hellen lost her ability to see and hear.
Helen's parents hired a private tutor, Annie, for Helen from the Perkins school for the blind located in Boston. With help from Annie, Helen learned to spell, read braille, and eventually speak. Throughout her lifetime, Helen wrote numerous books, traveled the world, and performed in the Vaudeville shows. Helen also began working at the American Foundation for the Blind, where she worked tirelessly to give visually handicapped individuals much needed resources. After extensive travel and work, Helen began to feel very tired and weak. She passed away on June 1, 1968 at eighty-seven.
Helen Keller: A light for the blind is a very well written tribute to the late Helen Keller. Kathleen V. Kudlinski perfectly captured Helen’s struggles and triumphs through this uplifting and informative biography. ( )

This is a short read on someone who accomplished so much. It's a good way to introduce young children to Helen Keller. It was a precious book and it shows kids that her life was not easy but she remained positive and was always giving to others. She overcame so much adversity for such a young girl. I still cannot imagine not having my eyesight or hearing since I love to read and listen to music so much. Helen Keller had all the odds against her but she kept pushing and overcame her disabilities. This is such an important book not only for Adversity but for handicapped children. Once you read about Helen Keller you know you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. ( )
