I could just ignore the insta-love, assuming that it was part and parcel of the genre - although i'm not afraid to admit I know nothing about shape shifters - but there was no mention of soulmates or bonding, so maybe it was just insta love. But Michael recovered too quickly from being imprisoned, both physically and mentally. And I had problems with some of the sex scenes considering one of the characters was a virgin . Not a book to encourage me to read more of the genre. Unfortunately, for me, this book failed to deliver on its promise. It was okay as a story (if somewhat slow, longwinded, and very repetitive in the beginning), but the world building was almost coincidental and didn't add the flavor and extra excitement it could have. Michael is a clearly wounded character, mistreated in research laboratories after a youth spent as a gang member. In my personal opinion, his change into a tame, well-adapted, and considerate lover/human is unexplained and much too fast after his escape from the labs. Robert, in my mind, was truer to the self that was presented by his background. Always having lived a "centered" and unobtrusive life, he needs the jolt of an intrusion to wake up to his true self. I liked that development and the explanation of his background and family history a lot. The relationship between the two men failed to convince me. Other than the physical attraction, which was there form the beginning, I couldn't see anything more develop. Maybe I missed it, but I couldn't really connect to either of the two men. That, combined with the somewhat lacking depth of the shifter mythology, is the biggest reason for my rating. Robert Hamilton-Scott is a "centered" shifter, meaning he does not give in to the passion of his abilities and is in complete control of himself. His family farm serves as a station in an underground railroad for shifters that have escaped from government labs. He gives them a safe place to rest for a few days before they continue on to the safer western territories. His world is changed when Michael O'Dare is brought into his life by local freedom fighters. O'Dare is what they call a gang baby, a shapeshifter brought up in a city packs that have little regard for humans and their rules. He was captured and held in a laboratory and experimented on for several years and has nearly forgotten what it is to be human. When the two shifters come together they discover things that make it impossible to return to their former lifestyles. I found the writing to be quite good, full of well crafted descriptives and plenty of juicy tension between the two characters. Once I got to the sex scenes, however, I found them to be a bit heavy handed. The repetitive use of dick, ass, and cock was a bit much as well, perhaps more synonym and allusion would be in order. I really enjoyed the premise of this book, and feel the author could do much with the world they have created. A bit more fleshing out of the origins of the shapeshifters and the governments reason for experimenting on them and this could be an exciting new series. näyttää 4/4 ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu

HTML: Sexy bad boy shapeshifter Michael O'Dare grew up on the streets. When government soldiers finally captured and imprisoned him, he became a lab rat and a collared slave, never again allowed to be human. His escape allowed him to return to human form and head for freedom in the Western Territories. Robert Hamilton-Scott had lived by the code "You're careful, or you're caught" for too long to take chances now. The one risk he takes in his carefully controlled life is offering temporary shelter to shifters on the run like Michael. Robert knows it's definitely not safe to want the sexy renegade he's giving sanctuary to--passion is dangerous for a shapeshifter. As the soldiers close in he must choose between the careful life he's built or life on the run with the man who has captured his heart. 22,000 words .Kirjastojen kuvailuja ei löytynyt. |
