The take on Tony Stark and Iron Man fits pretty well: a daring adventurer of wealth during the late 1930s, just before the US enters World War II. We get femme fatales, gadgets, Nazis, rare artifacts, and adventure. The frame is that Tony's adventures are being chronicled in a Men's Adventure Magazine, which adds to the period feel nicely. Overall, an entertaining amusing read with a small feel of steampunk and noir. Fans of Iron Man are likely to enjoy seeing their favorite hero in a different, yet familiar light. ( ) I'll get what I didn't like, the art, out of the way first. It was in a noir-y style, I get that, but I think I'm not crazy about any sort of noir style art, so it's not just a problem with this collection, but with any comic done with noir style art. On the other hand I loved the story. It takes place in 1939. It starts with adventurer Tony Stark looking for an ancient Mayan mask with healing powers. That adventure doesn't go exactly as he planned. But, this character of Tony Stark isn't so different from the 'normal' continuity one, and so he gets a new Chronicler, one Pepper Potts, and they go out on another adventure, this one to find the Lost City of Atlantis and more importantly its power source. By the end I definitely wanted to read more that was set in this universe because although it was totally different in many ways, it also had a lot of familiar characters used in different and cool ways. A solid three stars. A beautifully conceived idea with some flashes of true brilliance, as well as nods to hard core Marvel fans. The Thor castle, for one. There was a big element of Indiana Jones here, which in some ways is no bad thing. The Dieselpunk feel to this mixed well with the 1930's cliff hanger type of mythos. Fans of The Rocketeer will also love this. The art in places is a little weak, & the script very pulp like, but isn't that what this era was all about? Better art, more emphasis on character rather than style, & you'd have got 5 stars. I picked Iron Man Noir up because I'm a fan of Iron Man. I really enjoyed the steampunk aspects of this graphic novel, but as the previous poster pointed out, this isn't noir. The book itself isn't horrible, but it wasn't the noir I was expecting. However, Iron Man Noir is still enjoyable and the "twist" was unexpected. Plus, the artwork is very nice! All in all, I'd say that Iron Man Noir is an average graphic novel at best. I'd probably recommend it to already established Marvel or Iron Man fans, but it wouldn't be my first choice for someone uninitiated to start with. Perhaps the other titles in the Noir series are better. näyttää 5/5 ei arvosteluja | lisää arvostelu
